Determined to keep my promise to myself, I go to bed before 3 a.m., preferably before 2 a.m. Preferably before 1 a.m., though that is a lot less likely than either of the two other choices. I no longer use concealer to hide circles under my eyes.
I sleep in whenever possible, luxuriating under the covers, fuzzy socks on my feet, microsuede down comforter up to my neck, two pillows at my head and two cats at my feet. How I loooooove that.
Determined to keep my promise to myself, I've been eating better, a direct result of getting enough sleep.
Determined to keep my promise to myself, I've been spending more time with friends and family, less time on Gather, a direct result of my promise and a slow Gather.
Determined to keep my promise to myself, I bought new running shoes, but have yet to use them for running. Though they are terrific for walking.
Determined to keep my promise to myself, I will run on the roads, get fit (as I was for most of my adult life) and rejoice in the temple we're given, the body spectacular, muscles taught and bones strong, a feeling of glow that resonates from within, the endorphins that shout out joy, a runner's high, footfalls on the road, each fall to a heartbeat, sweat flying from the brow, looking like hell but feeling like a million bucks, wearing an expression that speaks to all who pass me as I'm on the roads: "running is more fun than it looks", a joke we runners tell when people think we're grimacing in pain as we carry out a promise to ourselves, yet we know that running is fun, any day of the year -- sunny days, rainy days, heavy snowfall – it's like riding in a car with the top down, it's like asexual sex, a natural high, I'm on top of the world.
Determined to keep my promise to myself, I will run on the roads today, else I'll have to eat humble pie.
But first a nap, for it's only 7 a.m. on a Saturday.

Now I understand.
Oh, and the sweat thing? One of the things I love about swimming is I'm sweating but the water temp never allows my body temp to rise too much.
however, running is definitely not for everyone..
i doubt whether the strain on the joints is not too much..
don't want to be a party pooper though, i think you need to be in good shape to run, swimming seems to me a moderate exercise and much healthier for people that might have problems..
swimming helped me recover from a car accident years ago as it does not put pressure on joints thanks to the water.
I would advice anyone starting up with running to do a check up first and take it easy..i remember that Boston scene, the running, charles river, looks great, must be wonderful but it is definitely not everyone's cup of tea..speaking of Boston and all..here nordic walking is big ,seems a bit funny though..i am sticking to walking the dog..slow, moderate and you get to socialize at the same time with dog people!
But first, I am just going to exercise my brain and continue to write here on Gather - my writing endorphins are running!
Hip Hip Hooray !
Cheerio Cat, have a nice weekend and eat some cake, it's Sunday.
For 20 years, I ran 3 or 5 miles most days, most weeks 10 months a year. January and July a little sporadic. Plus stairmaster and nautilus at the health club...
Steve - I want to see you OUT THERE WITH ME !!! NOW !!!
