A friend dropped by the other day to pick up some books that she had lent to me . I asked her if she would like to borrow any of mine. She said , no I am going to have to quit reading books until after Christmas. I am too busy with everything else. " After she left ,I thought gosh I couldn't go 3 days without reading a book let alone 3 months .
I have a bookmark that says " outside of a dog, a book is a man's best friend . Inside a dog it is too dark to read . "
I have liked to read and collect books as far back as I can remember. At one point I decided to trade my books in at a second hand store and realized that I didn't come out on the good end of the deal . So I decided I would keep my books. I started in about 1980, and now I have arround 786 books. The book in my collection are inspirational fiction. I collect read historical and contemporary. Most are some type of romance but I also enjoy mystery and intrigue as well. I think I started with less than ten authors. In the 70's most of what was out there for Christian romance was very dated . Authors like Grace Livingston Hill that went back to pre-war years. I remember Francina J. Arnold, and some books by some Mennonite authors . The few books that I had ,I had some atleast a half dozen times if not more. One of my most favorite books for many years was " Christy " by Catherine Marshall. I always much preferred the book, which I have read more than a half dozen times to the TV series that came out in later years . I think Jannette Oke started the proliferation the of christian fiction. I started out with just a few authers, today I have a list of more than 40 favorites , and my database contains books by more than 150 authors . (That surprised me ) I have often tried to narrow authors down to my favorite authors and found that there was just too many to choose from . I guess though Karen Kingsbury is at the top of my list . She just deals with contemporary issues so well and you feel like these are real people in her books. I find when I get one of her books , I can hardly put it down until it's done. I usually start her book one day and finish it the next . Other authors that I like are Dee Henderson ( she writes mystery and suspense . ) I enjoy Gilbert Morris who writes mostly historical novels and lot deal with the American Revolution, the Civil War , the 1st amd 2nd W.W. Some other authors are Lori Wick, Lauraine Snelling, Lisa Tawn Bergren , Tracie Peterson, and Diane Noble ,
I have another friend who is always teasing me about how many books I have , and says gee you gonna need a separate U-haul for all your books when you move. But books are good friends, and cheap therapy . And I can travel through time and space without ever leaving my chair .

Each of us also has a couple of bookshelves in our offices as well, and two seperate bookshelves for our daughter's books.
We're dragons at heart, and this is our hoard.
Bryan - that is a lot of books. I have not attempted to catalog all genres of my books - non-fiction, self help , cooking , quilting etc , and my husband has a library of his own in his office at the church . So I have no idea of the count .
