Lots of folks think of Stockholm when looking into visiting Sweden, but there is so much more that this country has to offer. With that in mind, I give you my own Top Ten places to see while in Sweden.
1. Ales Stennar - You've all heard of Stonehnege, but did you know the Vikings left henges of their own scattered across the country? Ales Stennar is the largest of these, and is free to the public. This is an awesome spot located on a Baltic Seaside cliff, just up the road from Ystad.
2. Fotovikin Museum - This is not a big ol' building full of artifacts. No. Set on a cliff overlooking the Orosund, this is a Viking Settlement built from known records of what one was like. It is open year-round, but do time your visit around the Viking Market. This is when the place fills with vendors selling all kinds of viking-related stuff from weaponry to garb to food.
3. Malmö - This is the third largest city in Sweden, and the seat of the region of Skåne. There is so mush to see and do here that I just cannot list it all. some of the best shopping in the country can be found in the city center amongst the well-maintained historic buildings, as well as some great beaches. Being just across the bay from partying Copenhagen, this is where the night-life happens in south Sweden. heh.
4. Lund - Just above Malmö you will find this awe-inspiring little city. I would suggest you park at your hotel and take the train in. That will deposit you right in the heart of the grand 10th Century buildings selling everything your heart could ever desire. Being a college town, bicycles are everywhere and driving is difficult on the narrow cobblestone streets. Do not miss the tombs in the basement of the Cathedral here.
5. Trelleborg - This is another great place for shopping amongst wonderfully preserved buildings. Some of the best deals I've found has been in Trelleborg. This is the shipping seat of the country and is located on the southern tip. You can catch the ferry to Germany from here, or visit a very cool Viking Settlement too.
6. Helsingborg - I could move to this city and never grow bored. Here you will find Sofia Slott, one of the King's grand castles, nestled in a beautiful park with a view of Kronborg Slott across the bay in Denmark. You can also catch the ferry over to Helsingör and browse around a bit. Gorgeous buildings and brilliant shopping abound.
7. Tjolöholm Slott - This beautiful castle is about 40 km south of Gothenberg and is the only Tudor-style castle in the country. It also among the largest. Just stunning, this.
8. Orenäs Slott - This one comes under the heading of Where to stay. Orenäs is a castle which has been converted into a gorgeous hotel. It sits on a hill between Helsingborg and Landskrona, overlooking the Orosund Bay. Magnificent.
9. Ystad - Back south again, just up the road from Trelleborg are the finest beaches in the country. Beautiful sand and the gorgeous waters of the Baltic Sea await you in Ystad. As with the other cities mentioned, you will find ancient buildings, great shopping, and wonderful restaurants here.
10. Skånes Djurpark - If you are into zoos, this is your spot. Here you will find the animals native to Scandinavia in general, and a very nice park-like area on the water to picnic. Inexpensive, and a great way to while away a warm summer day.

You forgot to mention where you can get the best meatballs. ;-)
I'm impressed that there are ferry boats to different countries. Being born and bred in California (explains a lot about my political viewpoints, eh?) I can just barely remember my father taking us on the LAST automobile ferry boat in CA back in 1960something.
Are these ferries you speak of capable of carrying autos. Could I buy a Volvo or Saab and ferry it to Germany or Holland?
I'd have to rob a banque first, of course. ;-)
Interesting article, maybe I'll get to see some of that stuff before I wither away.
Lots of auto-ferries in Scandinavia. One of my fave things to do is take the huge Scandline Ferry from Denmark to Germany for a shopping trip. WAY fun!
:P
Suppose I'll just settle for living vicariously through You, Soren and my Brother to see the world through your camera lens.
I'll try to log in Sunday to post up a few wedding pics...
Nice list here. I'm going on a "school field trip" to Ales Stenar sometime this term. Not sure when, though.
Oh, and "just across the bay from partying Copenhagen". Nice plug there.
København represent!
Any extra points for the featuring? I would think and hope so.
I was told by TPTB that I could un-flag one I had flagged for comment language, so I don´t think I need to flag this one... no extra points that I could tell, but I´ve been off-line for a few days driving from Galveston to Miami so haven´t been watching the points movement very close ;)
