Del.icio.us is a service that allows you to share 'bookmarks' or 'favorites' with others, or with yourself across computers (work, home, etc.). Digg is a news-related service that identifies 'news-worthy' blog or news entries from across the web, which Digg users promote via a recommendation-type voting system (similar to what will hopefully replace the rating system here on Gather). The permalink copies the URL (web address) of the article, so that you may paste it into other applications, comments, articles, etc.
Hopefully Gather will soon explain to members how they can use these features to their advantage.... otherwise, I will need to write another article for them.

Using Digg can be an effective way to acquire more visibility for your work here on Gather. Clicking on the Digg link will allow you to post a link to the article on the Digg service. However, Digg is not really geared towards poems, or other creative works.

Sounds rather strange that you need to go to other sites to push things from here. If it doesn't appeal to a lot of people to be having to keep bouncing back and forth from these different places, then what good are they going to be?
I have signed onto the del icio us it has helped me orginize some of my favorite recipies rather than printing them..they bookmark anything you want and you can go back to it later,helps me find some of my favorites in a hurry.It has a icon that shows up on your toolbar.
