TMX Tickle Me Elmo

The new Tickle Me Elmo is out and boy is he a riot! I never got the old one - then again I wasn't a mother back when it came out either.  I admit I'd play with it in the stores and got a giggle or two from it, but I never quite understood the frenzy he caused in stores.

Now the new Tickle Me Elmo is not only adorable but bust-a-gut laugh out loud funny. I want one. I want one for me and for my son (he'd surely share, wouldn't he?) I only want to giggle at it as he plays. While the advanced movements are vast and impressive, the $40 price tag is just as impressive - and sadly currently out of our budget. Not to mention it would be near impossible to find one of these in the stores judging by the mass frenzy it's predecessor caused. So, what is your stance on this toy? Is it worth the hefty price tag? Will you be clamoring to buy one for this year's gift giving season?

Well, I am watching and listening now. Hmmm, without being able to move the left arm at all, I would have to knock off about $10. And IF I were to be able to find one in the stores for my children, I am wondering if it would even work after all the "Jennifers" *winks* played with it before I got to it. (So I admit, I play with things like that too.) So, no, I probably won't be a part of the mad rush to spend $40 on a toy that makes a bunch of noise (not to mention the fact that with two kids that would want it, I would need two; therefore $80 and double the noise and batteries). I will leave it to the discretion of the grandparents....

Good points, Tab. I also think how much batteries is something like this going to drain? A rule of thumb is the more it does the more batteries it takes and the faster it wears down.

Having two kids that would want one and presumably not share would be a whole other dilemma for you. (Makes me glad I just have one, lol)

I don't have any children to purchase such an item for. What I found most interesting were the marketing aspects of this toy. On the morning of 9/19 there were 42 ebay listings for him. Now there are well over 2800. I think everyone bought them and took them to ebay.

I think you are right Marianne. I saw some of the video comments at You Tube about people buying 12 of these and saving them for Black Friday to sell on Ebay. Sheesh.

I personally hate this kind of toy. My kids have things like Cowgirl Dora and Some sort of bouncing Tigger thing. They play with them intermittently...a minute or so at a time. Then they're bored. $40 for a toy that they'll play with a few minutes then get bored with...no way. I feel bad about spending the $10 or whatever it was on the Tigger thing. (3 years ago) I got a Boobah that my son was enthralled with and would play with for up to 20 minutes (before he was 2, that's a long attention span at that age!) and I got it free on freecycle. That one is the best.

Freecycle? What's that Heather? I'm interested. :-) I thought about that possibility as well. There's no promise that your child will fall in love with a toy that costs so much and play with it enough to justify the cost. Another very good point.

LOL Candy. I hear you there. I've always loved Elmo - he's just too darned cute not to love.

Too expensive but very cute. I swear some of these toys are more attractive to us adults than the children they are intended for. I remeber the Cabbage Patch kids my children just had to have and all the trouble I went to to get them each one. No e-Bay in those days. They played with them for about a week or so and that was the end of that. I won't be buying Elmo for my grand children either. Eight years ago when my first two grand daughters were born they got Tela Tubbies because they loved the TV show. Another waste of money. They still loved the show but the dolls were a "favorite" for about a week or so and then played with occassionally.

I go to toys are us sometimes and get things like elmo much cheaper then anywhere else like i did the good barbie dolls for my granddaughter when she was growing up. Try Wal_mart stores and different places because some have lower prices oon the same item. maybe someone will get it for you child for christmas.

Gloria, I have to agree with you. Sometimes the parents are far more excited over a toy than the actually child winds up being. That's probably what they want when they market these expensive toys - something that will catch a parent or caregiver's eye as well.

It's possible he could get one from a family member. He also has a birthday coming up as well as Christmas, so you just never know. Or better yet wait until everyone's kids got tired of them and grab them at a second hand store.
