I was introduced to acupuncture when offered the job of office manager at a local clinic. As a condition of being hired I had to submit to a treatment. Needles... Feeling a bit apprehensive I agreed. I really wanted the job and have always been interested in holistic medicine.
Once the needles were inserted, a sense of calm and relaxation took over. I floated somewhere in space. Half asleep, I couldn't believe almost an hour had passed. Soon I was walking around the office with a needle stuck in my head for my migraines.
That was almost twenty years ago. I'm retired now, but still use the ancient art of acupuncture for various health concersn.
What is acupuncture used for? My acupuncturist does muscle testing while I hold a tiny vial of whatever substance I'm allergic too. He recently diagnosed me with candida--yeast overgrowth caused by overdosing on antibiotics for sinus infections years ago. I'm currently yeast free. I've also been treated for various food allergies, including wheat. I feel like a different person.
Acupuncture works on sinus infections, Bell's Palsey, shingles, severe back pain, high blood pressure and on and on. Be sure you find a licensed practitioner who uses disposable needles.

(I found you when searching for articles containing "wheat" -- I'm inviting people to join my group Gluten-Free. If you are on a gluten-free diet or interested in wheat-free matters, please come on over!)
I had numerous treatments everyday up the length of my spine into the neck, out through my shoulders, and down my arms to the thumbs. I looked like a pin cushion for sure.
There were certain times it seemed to help relax me, but never really affected the pain I had. It was also much less painful than I had imagined too, most of the time I couldn't feel them (the needles) go in. After a few weeks I stopped because it wasn't working. Many people swear by it though.
