Professional Development of the Teacher

In the recently concluded Travelling ELT Conference in Islamabad Pakistan the Theme being 'Global English Vanishing Borders'

the question of Teachers professional development was raised. Teachers need to be aware of the latest information about educational and learning theories, their practical application and implementation.

English language teaching is now a universal profession and is needed all over the globe

but ELT Teachers need training and a Licence to teach good standard English.

License to teaching not looks ok at all. It seems that we want to make it another way to earn money and make this noble profession a commercial avenue to generate revenues. Looks not good at all, despite there should be some proper teacher trainings after specific time intervals on regular basis to get to know about the new standards and techniques.

There should definitely be licensing standards for ALL teachers, ALL subjects. All teachers should be required to attend and successfully complete a minimum hours of professional development at specific intervals. This is the only way to insure that teachers remain on top of current methodology and current philosophy in the teaching profession.
