OK! Now I am confused. In my earlier article titled "Is The West Too Civilized?", I had refered to Pope Benedict, in a speech to German university students, quoting a Byzantine emperor who said, in effect, that Mohammed advocated the spread of Islam by the sword. Not surprisingly, this greated a furore among the "true believers."
Cut the crap, they shouted. The Prophet (peace be unto Him) was a man of peace who preached brotherly love, tolerance for other faiths and all that good stuff. Fair enough. They felt their guy was getting a bum rap and were pissed off about it. Makes sense so far.
Now, "the tall one" (Osama to the uninitiated) and his sidekicks ) have issued a web statement - and I quote - "We (the faithful) shall break the cross and spill the wine...God will help Muslims conquer Rome. May God enable us to slit their throats and make their money and descendants the bounty of the Mujahidin."
Wait a minute. Wasn't that more or less the point Pope Benny was trying to make? So they agree with him. So what's their beef? Am I missing something?
