I wish I were still a dumb young girl
who never realized what beauty was
the tender lies of sweet romance
should never have become my cross
stupidity vanished when I heard
my first intelligent word
I wish I never heard of angels
who sing with loving passion in their voice
shared by so many geniuses of love
I wish I never really had a choice
to choose intelligently
look what's become of me
your serpent voice whispered in my ear
with gentle voices of a balladeer
true love turned into hope so unfulfilled
once reality set in my heart chilled
I wish I never heard your tender lies
that programmed me for a life so damned
my lonlienss was tugged upon a line
until my heart was crushed by heavy hands
until my heartbeat
became incomplete
your serpent voice whispered in my ear
with gentle voices of a balladeer
true love turned into hope so unfulfilled
once reality set in my heart chilled
I wish I never heard your songs of love
the ones that really touched me to the core
and tricked me into wanting an embrace
that turned my purest heart into a whore
I cried for some release
but what left was peace
your serpent voice whispered in my ear
with gentle voices of a balladeer
true love turned into hope so unfulfilled
once reality set in my heart chilled

remember a poem is more than just finding words that rhyme,
the message has to flow
I cried for some release
but what left was peace
I comprehend your point of view. One thing to remember is that this is not just a "poem"; it is a song lyric. Unless it is paired with the appropriate music (whatever that may be) it will seem disjointed.
BTW, I was going for the disjointed quality in the end of my lyrics. Dissapointment causes us to feel disjointed after all. What I was attempting was that feeling we get when our fantasies turn out to be nothing more than our personal deception based on the lies of popular culture.
