A separate recent columbine related event

I hope that there won't be repeats of columbine type incidents. Maybe we need to impose hasher penalties upon people who want to do this nonsense. Maybe we need to make some examples of a few family units. If we kill all brothers, sisters, parents, aunts, uncles, and grandparents, maybe the future columbine re-enactors will think twice.

maybe if we stop SUPPORTING a CULTURE of "we are better than YOU!", and allowing these people to get so screwed up that they feel within their rights to lash back violently these things wouldn't happen.
"eewwww but they're just dweebs and nerds" and the administration said nothing and smiled tolerantly.

maybe these parents need to be more involved and supportive of their children. maybe we need smaller high schools so no one feels lost or isolated because they are part of a fringe-group. maybe we need a culture that is less fixated on quick-fixes. maybe we need to recognize-- or REMEMBER-- that adolescenes is a very volatile time with hormones and brain chemistry out of whack while a young person is desperately trying to figure who they, who they want to be, and what career they're going to have for the rest of their lives so they can answer when Gramma asks what they're going to do after high school. maybe.

If only it were possible to have small high schools. I don't think it's possible. Too much of culture is passed on to kids through socialization opportunities afforded them by interacting in groups. When children are homeschooled, they end up with entirely different sets of problems.

The only problem with small schools is the possible condensing of cliques which cause a lot of the problem for kids who feel they are the outcasts.
