Just in case anyone doesn't know, doing this is breaking copyright. It doesn't matter if you put the name of the photographer or artist in your article or caption. If you do not have PERMISSION directly from the creator of the photo or image, you CAN NOT post it here.
In addition to copyright, these are the rules of TOS that relate to posting images you do not own.
You agree that you are responsible for your own conduct and communications while using the Service and for any consequences thereof. You agree to use the Service only to send and receive messages and material that are legal and proper. By way of example, and not as a limitation, you agree that when using the Service, you will not:
- post any Content that infringes any patent, trademark, copyright, trade secret or other proprietary right of any party (the "Rights"), unless you are the owner of the Rights or have the permission of the owner to post such Content;
If you want to keep your account on Gather, you may want to pay more attention to copyright. Authors, artists, and photographers have rights to their work, even if it is posted on the web. Respect their rights by refusing to forward or publish work that is not your own and for which permission to distribute is unknown.

I just am going to go my own way and publish all my own photos (or a family member's in the case of some of the investigation photos) and my own articles to be on the safe side.
As a writer myself, I know what it's like to worry someone will run off and post your article, poem, story, etc elsewhere, and I'd never dream of infringing on these same rights of someone else.
If you go to a gallery and take a picture of a painting -- as long as that gallery allows photos, you are not breaking copyright if you use your photo.
