Back in May of this year, my husband and I decided to join the local Wellness Center - a gym sponsored by the hospital. We then quit within 2 days when we decided for sure we were moving to Tennessee. But, I did go work out in the pool one day, and weighed in there too. I weighed in at #($ pounds - hmmm, that's weird, the numbers won't show. Let me try that again. #($ Nope - it won't show! Anyway, I was 3 lbs less than I had been at my highest weight ever. I was disappointed that after losing 90+ lbs, it had almost all come back.
For the next few months I made no changes to my lifestyle other than to switch back to diet sodas. When I went to the doctor in August, I was surprised to see I had lost 23 lbs! Well, I thought it a fluke or because of the move, since I had really not tried to lose weight yet. Finally, on September 1, my husband and I joined the local Wellness Center near our new home. When I weighed in there, I found out that I had lost another 10 lbs!
So now we are working out 4-6 times a week. We are not really doing a lot different eating wise, but that will come in time. I have decided to document the weight loss with a weekly picture. I have posted the first two below and will add more as I disappear (hopefully!). I am taking pictures of the hubby too, but have to check with him to see if he wants them posted here or not.
I need cheerleaders to encourage me as I disappear! Please gve me support and check in on me to see that I keep up the work!

First day at the Gym - #^! lbs - down 23 lbs since May

Day five to the gym - 9-11-06. Weight loss of 1 lb since last weigh in on 9-1-06. Total weight loss so far, 24 lbs.

I had to lose 50 pounds in short order a few years ago for health reasons. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and members of my family with that diagnosis who don't make lifestyle changes don't live much past 50. I will be 44 tomorrow (Sept 14). About 7 years when diagnosed I started exercising, eliminated the sugared soda, skipped dessert and limited myself to one quarter pounder instead of two like I used to eat. I studied nutrition and metabolism. I have kept 30 of it off for good, and seem to battle with that other 20. I need to get that 20 off, keep it off, then go for another 10 or so. So I will follow your articles, cheer you on, and take inspiration myself.
Keep up the good work!
I struggle with this issue myself, and understand the difficulties. But you are on the right track, girl. Keep it up!
I'm cheering for you (and Jeff to).
Have you ever checked out the Dr. Dean Ornish Program For Healthy Hearts?
Having lost +60 pounds myself (and kept if off) I know, that if you don't change your diet, it's going be really tough, but you are right Coca cola, etc. are nothing more than sugar water, and it will turn into fat. So swicthing to diet could really be what helped you loose those pounds.
My niece decided after christmas that she no longer would drink Coke, etc. She decided that is was degusting! ;O) She swiched to water, and with out anything else lost 16 pounds.
Now there a thought...
But all of the above you already know, since you've done it before, so a cheering for you and hope that you will succeed!
And as others have said heart and health is what count! So GO GO GO all the way to gym!
Best of luck, Monica (and hard work) ;O)))) Keep us posted!
Because this is clearly important to you, I support you and cheer you on!
But know that your heart and soul are already known quantities, and your friends on Gather and elsewhere only wish for your happiness, most of all.
Yay Monica! Go go go!
I look forward to seeing the new you !!!
It's true, it's not the weight loss we celebrate...it's you.
Big or small, you are a priceless gem, a beautiful person, a remarkable talent -- and I am forever your friend and fan!
