Illegal Aliens A Drunken MENACE on OUR ROADS

While working temporarily in "The Valley" area of south Texas, I noticed an abundance of cars with strange licenses on them. Many were from way up north, but the drivers weren't if you get my drift. In fact, one car that especially caught my eye, had a license on it that said Texas Truck. We have those here in this state and it certainly doesn't belong on a sedan. My thinking on these license issues are this, they are stolen, placed on stolen cars, used for illegal purposes, drug running, shoplifting, and various other assundry purposes. The police look the other way due largely in part because they have ties south of the border themselves. It's a big problem, but I don't know how we can fix it unless we send in temporary law enforcement officers or just put up roadblocks for everyone to check for licenses, insurance, and titles to their vehicles. Seems easy doesn't it?

Many times illegal immigrants travel to different states to get their licenses and plates..because some states have different laws on what "paperwork" you have to have..for example you could in some states get a drivers license with a tax id instead of a social security number..so many travel to states that don't have such strict laws to get their registration..

AMY....slice it ANY WAY you want, they are AGAIN breaking the law....for instance, here in New York, you have THIRTY DAYS to transfer title and tags to New York plates, and get a NEW YORK LICENSE....skirting the system by GOING OUT OF STATE is breaking our laws, and further is another example of TAX EVASION, as our fees here in New York are higher than say the state of North Carolina...we also ahve different insurance laws, so you can try to spin it. but your COMMENT shows exactly the kind of games these illegals want to play in their attempts to skirt or disobey any and all laws they DO NOT LIKE...it is THAT SIMPLE.

Ummm, do you think the drive from south Texas to Washington state, Wisconsin, and Michigan seem logical to get a license plate? I don't, Amy. Porgie is correct, going out of state for a license plate is illegal as well. If that's what they are doing, they are circumventing getting Texas insurance, of which it's a state law that EVERYONE have liability insurance here. We have to change our driver's license when we move here in the state within thirty days of the move. "The Valley" is a haven for Winter Texans, people who come down from the north to escape winter. I believe these plates are mostly stolen ones.

Let's see... if I were an illegal alien, let's say, I'm definitely not going to walk into a municipal building where there might be cops around and register for a driver's license that is then entered into a database where someone might, oops, find out I'm illegal and deport me. Therefore it ONLY makes sense that the majority of the people driving without a license would be someone who couldn't or don't want to because of fear of being deported. I'm also not going to get insurance since they do things like checking up on your safety record or register a car (again, put in database).

If you were to cite this statistic, say in Detroit, I'll bet you get a different picture. Obviously states near the Mexican border will have a higher incidence of stolen vehicles by illegal immigrants.

Lastly, if you were really concerned about menace to our roads, you would also point out that crazy drivers in large SUVs tend to tailgate smaller sedans, that teenage drivers cause more accidents than others, and street car racing is a problem in certain areas.

I do agree that illegal aliens have broken the law and should be deported, but not because they are a menace on the roads.

Just because they have a reason they feel justifys ignoring our laws, should not excuse it. I have a friend out in Ohio who was hit by a drunk illegal while on his motorcycle...no drivers license, no insurance, and my friend is in a wheel chair for the rest of his life, and has lost his home when his OWN MONEY ran out.

Jackie, you live in Az. Don't you see what's happening there, or doesn't it affect you? I see it in San Antonio. Trash is piled nearly as high as the fences in some neighborhoods. Cars spew all kinds of smelly smoke. It's not surprising we have "white flight" out of the cities in Texas.

In the recent past, an officer was shot by an illegal alien from Mexico after a routine stop here in our area. The perpetrator was given chase after the shooting and it all ended badly in a car wreck. Other people not involved in the shooting incident were injured in the wreck. So, we not only had to incarcerate the illegal, we had to give him medical treatment as well. Yes, it costs us as taxpayers to do this for the illegals. I say, send them home, all we can round up. Also, in the Dallas metro area, kids are given notes at school to give to their parents to inform them of tuberculosis being found in children whose parents are here illegally. How much do you have to learn? We, as Americans aren't an uncaring bunch of people, but we do have our limits as to how much we can shoulder this monetary burden on our society. If they are here illegally, they bypass our systems of safety for others. That's the bottom line of it all.

Thanks for the attack Jackie B. I don't hate Mexicans. Good grief, I grew up in San Antonio and had many good friends who were Hispanic. I also worked with many Hispanics in Corpus Christi. I simply know what I see and what I see isn't right. Just a side note to the story on the illegal who shot the State Trooper, the illegal was running drugs. How about having HIM for a neighbor? Where do the statistics at the end of this article come from? I would agree that there is a problem going by the statistics, but I would like to know if they are from a reliable source. They aren't from the article that was posted that doesn't mention illegals at all. That more than half of the drivers in several states being stopped for traffic violations are illegal aliens seems unbelieveable to me. Are half the people in those states illegal aliens?

In the state of Texas, whites are now the minority, with Hispanics being the majority. San Antonio has had that status for quite some time. I just report what I have seen in this state. If this makes some of you angry, then call your congressman and complain about the influx of illegal aliens and let them know you want it fixed.

Although not enough efforts have been put into enforcement, we have arrested and deported MILLIONS of illegals....should we now STOP ARRESTING drug dealers because NOT ALL OF THEM HAVE BEEN CAUGHT, for many of the same reasons why illegals have not all been caught?

I'm a North Carolinian and I can tell you, your facts are right on. We have a serious problem with illegals and drunk driving in NC. So much so, that Hispanic organizations such El Pueblo are reaching out to these people to get them to stop driving drunk.

Porgie, I don't see the connection between child molesters and illegal aliens. Child molesters that have been caught are forced to register as a condition of release back into society. Illegal aliens, on the other hand, have NOT been caught and therefore will do their utmost to remain that way. THAT is why they avoid doing anything to register with any sort of government. Am I condoning this practice? No, I was merely explaining the statistics. Obviously the people driving without licenses are going to be the ones who can't get them. I'll bet another significant portion of people without licenses are those persons whose licenses have been suspended for drunk driving.

As for illegals, in theory, yeah it's great to deport them. But, if estimates are correct, we're talking about a massive undertaking to deport 10 plus million people. What kind of societal and economic impact will that have on everyone? No matter your principle on illegals, you have to at least address the magnitude of that endeavor and come up with a more pragmatic solution that to deport every illegal you find. The other problem - deporting does not solve the underlying problem causing the illegal immigration. So yeah, you spend lots of money moving people back south of the border only to have them jump the border again.

For those of you who advocate border control as a solution, sure, I grant you we need better control. But we will NEVER be able to control the entire border. It is just too big. All you do is shift the entry point down the line. So that fence idea is retarded.

What we need is a practical solution that encompasses taking care of current illegals (a partial amnesty with green cards only after several years along with back taxes/fines paid over time) and making them legal, coming up with better and more viable border control, and working with Mexico to improve trade relations to lift both economies. Mexico, excluding the areas immediately south of the U.S., is still a very poor, backward country. There is a significant incentive to risk one's life to come to the U.S. We need to narrow that gap.

Until then, you can deport all you want, but it ain't going to do much to solve the problem.

Sure there are articles that show there is a problem, but I found no factual evidence to back the statistics you cite. Can you imagine people going into court, charged with a crime, and having to be responsible for researching the evidence against them?

In most discussions, debates and articles, the author cites their sources PRECISELY because asserting those facts immediately brings the source into question.

Curious...is there some kind of a message board set of rules you are relying upon there Eric? has their been some official RULEBOOK published on message board debates that I am unaware of that you are relying upon in telling me it is MY JOB to do your work for you? I used to be on a debate team....if I wanted to destroy my opponents claims, I had to have the sources with which to do that, it was NOT HIS/HER JOB to hand them to me. I googled the stats and found them listed on a number of sites, including:

You'll note that none are what I would consider "reputable" sources, since every one of them is an anti-immigration site.

I went to both the FBI and the INS's websites, and couldn't find anything REMOTELY resembling these stats.

If you've got a better source than these, please let me know.

Otherwise, I have to think that they are made up.

That is life. I put up stats for instance that I find on ALIPAC, and some here claim it's a BIASED source...same with stats from NumbersUSA. If you put up stats from La Raza, I am going to find them dubious and bias at best....that is reality. I found the site, and I have no reason to believe they are not accurate....you may not agree with my decision, but does not make me wrong, or your write. It's like the old expression, liars can figure and figures can lie. You can always find a study somewhere that in some fashion will support your side. I guess that's the difference, Porgie. I care a lot about where I get my information. I'm not naive enough to believe that everything I read is "real." You have to ask yourself, "hey, if these figures are true, how would I know."

With the stats you cited, they would be on the front page of every paper in the country. And, if they were true, you'd have millions of Americans supporting what you said.

But, the fact of the matter is, not one news souce and certainly not the original sources (FBI and INS) validate anything you've said.

My sources, my links are NEVER going to make you happy, because you are not a PRO-LAW ENFORCEMENT/ANTI ILLEGAL ALIEN person, but a Pro Illegal Alien Rights person. AS to your ascertion that those stats would be on the front page of every paper in America....not true....for the most part, the MEDIA wrongfully supports the Illegal Alien movement, which is why they have bought into presenting them to the reading public wrapped in all those warm and fuzzy terms such as undocumented workers, undocumented immigrants, instead of calling them what they are, which is Illegal Aliens.

If you are an AMerican earning less money because Illegals have depressed the wages, if you have lost your job to illegals, or if you have illegals devaluating your property values and neighborhoods, support those articles that FRAME THE ISSUE CORRECTLY, instead of in a light favorable to law breaking illegal alien criminals.

Second, your assertion that the media is supressing the FBI and INS reports about illegal immigration is absurd. Media outlets have shareholders who expect returns. Returns come from the sale of newspapers and viewing of media. What you've asserted would be BIG NEWS (if it were true). It would sell papers and people would flock to their TV sets to watch the talking heads go through these statistics in detail. So, the media conspiracy doesn't wash.

Finally, you and I agree. If the high level of vehicular malfeasance due to illegals were as bad as you've said, there would be a public outcry. But, even conservative-owned papers check their sources so as not to embarrass their owners and shareholders.

Drunken Illegal Aliens getting behind the wheel of a car are more dangerous not because of the color of their skin, but because it's a further track record of their total disregard for, and lack of respect for the principles of law and justice. Most illegals stopped for a DUI do not have a drivers license (a crime), do not have insurance (another crime), came here illegally (again a crime) often times have a fake ID (yet another crime), give false statements to police officers....again a crime. It shows a repetitive pattern of criminal, reckless and unsafe behaviors, shows them to be a very disreputable undesirable person.
