(This poem was inspired by a painting I have of a little girl sitting on a pier staring out at the ocean. In the portrait, all you can see is her back. The painting is by Adoph Sehring. I often see myself in this painting.....because during my abuse, I would escape in my mind to the ocean. And I can very well imagine myself sitting on a pier, thinking and wondering if life would get better.)
She sat down on the pier,
So quiet, so very small;
She stared at the foam-capped waves
And listened to the seagull's call.
She did not frolic;
She did not play;
She had no friends
That came her way.
She sat there for the longest time,
At least an hour or two;
Rarely is there such a little girl
With nothing at all to do.
She did not make a castle,
Or squish her toes into the sand;
She just stared at the ocean blue,
Never glancing back at the land.
She seemed so lonely sitting there;
A sad look upon her face;
I could not help but wonder
What had brought her to this place.
She sat alone on the pier,
So quiet, so very small;
She stared at the foam-capped waves
And listened to the seagulls call.

Looking out, looking in. Haunting, to say the least. There's what we see, and what we perceive she saw and heard and felt. The effect is for the viewer's sense of loneliness rather than any loneliness the little girl may have been feeling.
I can picture you turning this into one of your beautiful lyrics. Good job.
Thank you for your comments.

Your inner journey is becoming completely veridical in all ways. I am SO PROUD of you, my dear spiritual friend and poet.
You are becoming everything you have hidden from yourself over the years (even though you still have lived a magnificent compassionate life and raised your children well and loved your husband well despite your pain) and so the persona and shadow are fully integrating, in God's love and your own fearless self-examination.
This little, innocent girl conveys her/your sadness so well. Courage and kudos to you.
