Gather Gift Cards? What do you think? Amazon VS Barns and Noble

I don't mean a competition, but if I have 2 or 3 cards (gift cards) with Amazon I can set up an account and add then together then order books with tem, all together so if I buy more then $25.00 of books I get free shipping... but with barns and Noble they will not allow you to use more then one gift card at a time. and for me the closest store is 80+ miles away...  Gather has a relationship with Amazon can they get cards from them? I mean fee free to keep the BN ones also some people live close and can use them as they like.  (or is their an agreement with BN to get the $25.00 gift cards for less then $25.00 as long as there is no competition... probably so but I was just wondering.)

Barnes & Noble.....I like to physically pick up books, etc. look at them & make a decison....besides the GC's are also good in the cafe..! Wish they had Borders GC's too...!

Are you sure you aren't allowed to use multiple gift cards? That sounds really odd. I haven't tried but I'll try that at the store next time.

Sure Selene but being poor I can't afford too often to drive $160.00 miles round trip to get to Barns and Noble... they are 80 miles aproximately away from where I live...

I should have said ON-LINE they wont allow you to use more then one at a time. so thats why I like amazon (they are only online) and they allow you to setup an account and credit all cards you like to it then use them at your leasure... thats all.

Thanks for posting this Matthew. I've been wondering the same thing.
I would prefer gift certificates from Amazon not only becase I can combine them but also because they have a wider variety of merchandise to choose from.
I would never use gift certificates from any of the other partners (other than Barnes & Noble) because the others offer upscale/overpriced products that just aren't my style

Oh ok.... I didn't realize you were talking about BN online. Hum.... That's silly they don't let you use multiple gift cards during one transaction.

Yes I do know about this benefit from Amazon.com. I have an account with them also. But I personally like the BN gift card only because I am getting tons of Amazon credits from other programs.... I just rather have something different from time to time.

I am not disagreeing with you though. I see you suggesting that ADDing Amazon as another option, and not taking away BN cards. :-)

I was able to order books from B&N online and use two gift cards. All you have to do is place the order and click of the "pay by phone" option. Then you call the toll free number and give them your order number. They take more than one gift card and process it for you right then and there.
So it is possible to use more than one. You just have to make an extra step to call the phone number to make the payment but everything else gets done online.

That's very interesting William. I would have never thought a store might not take more than one of their own gift cards for a purchase. After all, they are supposed to be the same as cash, right? How strange!
You make a very good point.
It's the split tender problem. Sorry, I do business programming. I'm not proud of it but one of the conditions of my parole is admitting it.

Split tender means paying for something in more than one way like more than one gift card. Not everybody's order entry system can handle it.

I'd go with Amazon. Barnes and Noble annoys me.
Hmm thanx for this thread. I was wondering about whether or not I could get multiple gift cards. I like BN because I buy my kids one brand new chapter book a month and they prefer to pick it up themselves and examine it before choosing it. It makes that trip a little more fun not seeing all my money whittled away. Plus, I can let them buy the hardbacks they like rather than the paperbacks.

When I was looking at B&N website I saw "pay by phone" as an option. I would imagine that if you were going to pay by phone, you could use multiple cards.

As for me, my Sweetheart has his books listed in both Amazin and B&N, so eitherway, it's good advertising for him! ;-)
I'd like to see them offer both. Only because sometimes you cannot find what you want, and then you can in the other. Our B & N is close but doesn't have the books I need, in the store, only online, which isn't a good thing. In any case, both is good! :)
And since I've never gotten an Amazon GC, I'd love to have the chance to get one.
