We adopted our second dog Emmy when she was about two months old from our local pound. She is now 2 years old and such a loved member of our family. She is such a sweet, loving girl and so gentle with our whole family including our six children. In fact, out of our four dogs she is the most docile and sweet tempered, but lately we are becoming increasingly concerned with her behavoir.
As I said she is great with all of us, but not so great with our other dogs. She is constantly "going after" and attacking the other dogs for no reason at all. She is our biggest dog at 28 pounds and has caused minor injury to the others, it would probably of been worse at times, but luckily we have always been there when it happens and will never leave her alone with the rest of the dogs.
Emmy has also escaped out the door on a few occasions (when one of the kids weren't paying attention) and the first thing she does is to go after the other dogs in our neighborhood. I don't understand why she acts so aggressively towards other animals or how to get her to stop.
Everytime she is aggressive to another animal we quickly step in to stop her, and put her in her cage (she is kennel trained). We are truly at our wits end at how to stop her her aggressive behavoir. I have read up on everything I can find and even spoke to her vet about it to only be told "it's just her personality" and that she'll "calm down when she gets older" Not helpful advice at all.
If anyone has ANY advice or suggestions on what we can do, we would really appreciate the help. Thanks so much.
