The group is a good idea, though. I wish it had been around when I was new.

Need help using images on Gather? Then picture this.
1. Do we have to type all of our writings into groups, say recipes into a recipe group or can we just make that an article?
2. I read say "Bob's" article, does he get points because I read the article, rated it, then left a comment?
3. How do i gather up gather.com points?
thanks much,
stephanie
1. No, you can write an article, and then add it to groups later on, if desired. You can also keep an article as a 'draft' until you are ready to publish it.
2. Yes. 'Bob' does. However, you may get points as well for reading, commenting, and participating on Gather.
3. As I mentioned above, you get Gather Points for your active participation on Gather. While no one knows the exact amount of points awarded for a given activity (except Gather, Inc. of course), the more you are involved in the community, the more points you gain.
I hope that helps!

Not a Gather Expert? This Insider's Guide may be of help.
1. Do you lose points if a group rejects your article?
2. Do you get more points if your article is featured in a group and what about the home page?
3. How many featured articles can you have in a group?
4. I dont want to have the same featured articles for too long in some active groups, but the content settings link is not there for these so how can I remove an article from featured status but not from the group?
I have to step out for awhile, so perhaps other members could expand upon my very brief responses below. If not, then I will provide greater detail later today, as well as respond to any other unanswered questions posed here. Thanks!
These are MY OPINIONS only.
1. No, points would not be reduced when an article is removed from a group.
2. I am not certain, but there could be some point advantage in having an article featured on the Gather home page. I doubt that featuring an article in a group would influence a member's Gather Points.
3. As far as I know, the number is unlimited.
4. All featured articles also appear within the 'non-featured' listings as well. The Content Settings option only appears within the standard view. For featured articles, an option is provided to 'unfeature' the article, if necessary.
Hope that helps, and I will check back later today!

Regarding gift certificates, will there be additional or modified options in the near future? The ones available so far aren't particularly great. Barnes and Noble gift certificates can't be combined. This would make it necessary to spend cash in a lot of instances in order to redeem. Most of the other options are for vacation things (we don't travel) or for premium i.e, overpriced items
Regarding cash, how does one get invited to this exclusive club. I've seen 3000 points in a month mentioned. How many times would a person have to earn 3000 points or more to qualify? Is there any differentiation in how the points were earned? Once qualified are you disqualified if your participation is less prolific in a given month. Can cash remain on account and be requested later? Can a person who converts to the cash "option" convert back at a later date?
While you may not know all of the answers to these questions, you're bound to know a whole lot more than I do. So I appreciate your help.
1)How can other groups see the photos, make a comment like nice photo but not contribute to the story thread?
2) Once a group is up and running ,, what happens if i want opt out?
3) Are there any branding issues using the name Gather Gnome?
Thanks,
I do not work for Gather, but it is my understanding that increasing the available redemption options, including adding more Gather Points Partners, is a high priority for them.
It is also my understanding that members are invited to join the cash program once they begin to earn 3000 points per month. It is then your option to switch. However, once you switch to the cash option, you cannot go back to gift cards.
There is no distinction, that I am aware of, between how points are earned, and yes, they will remain 'on account' until you are ready to 'cash out'. Although, there may be some time limit imposed later on.
Hope that helps!

♥ Looking for 'love' on Gather? Start your search here.
group unavailable
You either do not have permission to see this group or it has been deleted. If the group is private you must be signed in for permission to view this.
I also have 12 group invitations (and these groups are in that list), but when I go to the page, it's blank. Grr?
There are several financial/tax hurdles that must be overcome before cash compensation can be provided to members residing in foreign countries. I also do not work for Gather, therefore I cannot give any answers as to when these issues will be resolved. However, my belief is that Gather has this task as one of their highest priorities.

Shhhh.... Find out about Gather 'Cheat Codes' here.
Near the upper right-hand corner of most pages on Gather, is a link to Gather's help files. This link is labeled 'help'. These help files are written as a series of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs), and should assist you with some of the basics like publication of articles (stories), and using the Gather mail system.
If you do not find the answers you are looking for there, then please stop back to this article and let me know.

Want to find special articles quickly? Here's how.
You can send mail to anyone on Gather, whether you are connected to them or not. However, it is easier if you are connected, or have previously sent the member a Gather mail message (because the member's name appears in at least one of the two options available on the mail composition page).
If you are not connected in any way, or have never sent this member a message before, you must either:

Gather Group Owner? Learn techniques to manage your group here.
From what you are describing, it appears that your friend's groups have restricted access to the content of the group(s). This means that you must belong to the group in order to view the content published to it. Join the group, and then you should be able to see the contents.

If you are asking me whether we, as members, obtain a differing amount of points for certain types of participation, then the answer is yes. This breakdown is known only to Gather, Inc. though, and not to members (many would like to know though!)

Long distribution lists in Gather Mail got ya down? Fix yours here.
There is no short answer to your first question. Therefore, I would recommend that you send me a message on this, and provide a bit more detail about what you want to accomplish, and how you envision the final result.
For question#2, you can opt out from a group at any time. However, if this is a group that you own, you may want to ask another member to take over the management of the group in your absence. Without some occasional involvement by you, or a designated manager, groups can either fade away from a lack of participation, or become overrun with published content that is unrelated to the premise of the group.
As for branding issues, Gather, understandably, needs to limit groups using the word Gather in the title. I do not work for Gather, therefore I am not certain how they may react to your group name. I would suggest contacting Gather to ask. Email Gather support at: support@gather.com

I have heard of others experiencing this problem occasionally. However, I do not know what the resolution was. I wish that I could be of more assistance. I would definitely contact Gather support at: support@gather.com.
In the interim, has she made any changes to her computer recently? (upgraded browser, operating system, etc.) and, how long has she been experiencing this?
I would have her try the following:
1) Reboot. Classic answer, but sometimes these problems may be caused by a lack of available memory. Unlikely, but possible.
2) Change some settings in her profile (like guarded viewing). Turn it on, save changes, then change back and save again.
3) Try using a different computer, or the same computer but switch browsers.
These steps may not fix the problem, but they will definitely help Gather narrow down the root cause of the issue.

When I followed the links in the email she sent me, I got the "group unavailable" message, but no links, join buttons, pictures, nothing on the sides. The same thing happens when I try to just type in the url. When this page comes up, my home link on the top goes away, but when I hit "my gather" I go right back to it, so I'm not logged out.
While you wait, I would suggest having your friend(s) change the group to public temporarily, and send another invitation. See if that works.
Also, check if the group shows up under 'My Groups', and you can access it. It is possible that you are already a member, and some security 'bug' is keeping you from seeing it. If I think of anything else, I will send you a message.

Thanks for all the great information. I'll save my points for now. I can always decide what to do with them later.
I'll probably visit here often as I think of questions.
Unfortunately, we have no way of deleting groups ourselves. You must send an email to Gather at: support@gather.com, and request that the group be deleted.
This will conclude this week's 'Sunday Help Series' session.
Until next Sunday, you may publish any questions to the Gather Help Forum, at the link at the end of this comment.
See you next Sunday!

I have made this the Lead Feature for Unofficial Gatherholics.
Apparently my filter was on. I went and put in my age and changed the setting, and voila... the groups appeared. Thanks to Taliah H for pointing it out.
I'm glad that it has been resolved! I should have had you try that, and I shouldn't have assumed that the groups wouldn't have guarded content!
Thanks for the update!
I hope you know I was kidding.
> This way you get no extra points for you imflamitory, stupid, repeated articles. You will get a meessage each time, and a 1 rating for me as long as you keep posting garbage.<<br>
I've not included the name here for obvious reasons, but I am wondering...does Gather condone this kind of article stalking? Does Gather CONDONE people going into your articles and putting up posts encouraging others NOT TO POST TO YOUR ARTICLES, but instead post in their more Pro Illegal slanted articles, and include links to those articles?
Curious, does Gather specifically condone a thread started by JAckieL where in the first post she specifically attacks me by name? Sure she thought she could successfully keep the article hidden, but I came across it tonight and flagged it for editorial review.
Do not think disagreeing with ones views or writing style should entitle the members here to such open attacks on my articles and name...there has been a concerted effort for instance to assign ONES to my articles as is witnessed in the first part of this complaint.
Where on the web site can I post questions?
2nd question for Lynn or an experienced chef. I recently made the Roasted Salmon with Pomegranate sauce and it was a greta success. We'd like to make it again but we have to make a portion of the sauce without wine (no alcohol). Any suggestions what we can subsitute in place of the wine? Thanks Carol
I'll respond below in a moment...
You may publish an article to the community asking your question (called 'sharing a post'). You can also publish that article to the HelpCenter™ for Gather, and members will respond.
A faster method might be to post a comment on the daily HelpCenter help article. A new article is published each morning, 7 days a week. You can visit the HelpCenter via the link provided below....
As for your wine question, I would suggest a non-alcoholic cooking wine. It makes a great substitute for the real thing. Available in better cooking & gourmet shops.
