Understand-a-bull's  WORST  places to travel with your DOGS!!!

 

The absolutely Least dog friendly place in North America: Ontario, Canada.  Due to broadly worded breed specific dog law that allows confiscation, and destruction of dogs based solely on a Dog warden's say so.

my sister, who lives in iowa, wants to adopt a pit. i told her to check in to the laws specifics before doing so.

as the owner of two pit bulls and a resident of ohio, i know all too well how messed up my state's laws are regarding these wonderful and special dogs. so far i've had no problems--my husband once even had a sherriff turn his car around just to come back and comment on how beautiful our dogs were, coaxing them to jump up onto his car so he could pet them through the window! but i know this is not a typical reaction. grown men will cross the street just to avoid walking past us when i have them out somewhere. let's hope our lawmakers can get it right and stop these silly unfair laws. punish the deed, not the breed!!

great story! i think that as visible as we are in our community (we walk our dogs every day) it helps to perpetuate the fact that these are great dogs. we have had people ask if they are mean, if they bite, etc. we like to educate as much as we can. if just ONE person changes their mind about what great dogs these are, its a step in the right direction.

They get a bad rap. I think if people didn't raise them to fight it wouldn't be an issue. They can make good pets if raised properly, like any other dog of that size and strength.

good info to know. i will check into the laws out here in iowa--and it's funny that muskegon, michigan made that list as i just moved from there! yikes...maybe i better check out places before i move there.

Interesting information. Why is it so difficult to travel to certain states with your pet?

This comment and rating of your older gather content was an idea Steve the Legend had on how to give a Christmas gift to our Gather connections. He recently posted an article with the suggestion of looking at content from before we were connected. You are the 9th connection I have done this with so far and you have a ton of content here, lol! Yakima Washington has been considering changing this policy because of a recent out break of dog attacks by mixed breed dogs ( this summer ) Thay have decided maybe it isn't the breed of dog but the owners I mean DUH !!

My Pepper was a cross between a blue heeler ( Australain Cattle Dog ) and an English Bull and people would cross the street seeing her. She was my hug a puppy ! I even had people try to tell me she was a pit . Now that was just dumb

Angela, I am reserving some judgment on that, as I would hope most intelligent people would. I saw about 14 different versions of that story, which is typical for any pit bull "news".

In addition, a 107 lb male pit is rather unusual (they rarely get that big), both dogs were intact and I am sure the guy wasn't just kicked back having a smoke and the dogs attacked him without provocation.

Shannon I agree with you totally in regards to the grandpa. I have been blessed to raise pitbulls all my life. Never have I had an aggressive pit. I own property (a dirt lot) in Kern County, California. I want so bad to start a rescue for pit bulls. But of course I barely make it paycheck to paycheck, but if you know of any one who would maybe want to help me. I got the land if they got the know how. Pit Bulls Rule !

I also plan to start a sanctuary for them.

The best place to start looking for help would be the pit bull rescue sites: Badrap, pitbulllovers, maybe the ASPCA, etc. Good luck! Keep in touch!

I had been looking for this list. Anyone with a pit or a mutt that might have pit blood should have this information before traveling or interviewing for a job out of state. I live in Jersey where we have packs of devoted pit bull lovers, so I absolutely hope that legislation like this is never passed, but then it's mind-boggling to me that something so idiotic and un-American could have been passed in other areas.
