Sure there was a war going on, the protesters were in full swing but there were some great memories of those days..
My daughters were little..We used to take them to Love-ins in the parks..does anyone else remember them? Peaceniks, head bands, Flower Power.Home made dresses made of flag fabrics...I know, wouldn't be politically correct today...But by todays standards we would probably have all been arrested and interregated..
What about the rock concerts that took place on converted race tracks, and on open fields. I remember two in particular, one in Atlanta, we drove up in a cavalcade of wildly painted cars....it brought out thousands of us, pitching our tents, getting funky...the city sent out fire trucks filled with watermelons that they threw out at us, then the fly's came...annoying but part of the "trip"...We, our little group of merry makers, cheated a bit and rented a hotel room up the road a piece to shower and take a nap if need be.. This concert was where the first announcement came about the upcoming Woodstock event...Could we go we wondered? Turned out we couldn't after all, most us did have jobs or children to take care of ...
Another concert held in West Palm Beach...our same little group attended....Grateful Dead played for hours and hours, passed out some of their special orange juice just before Timothy Leary made his appearance...Joplin was there, Johnny Winter, Sweetwater, Jefferson Airplane, Creedance Clearwater Revival, Led Zeppelyn, even Mick Jagger was there but we left before his, in the middle of the night appearance on the last night...It was an amazing time...at one point I looked up on the stage and there was my husband...I couldn't figure out how he got up there.
We talked of going off somewhere and starting a commune but none of really wanted to leave our conveniences and livelihoods so it was all talk.We remain friends to this day...I wish I had some pictures to share but alas they are all faded out
Organic gardening, eating naturally and becoming vegetarian was the rage...We opened a small juice bar, the first in Miami
Life changed for many of us, Yes there was protests and fighting, but somehow it didn't seem as nasty and mean spirited as it is today....
Good old days?or just changes, the natural order of things?.

this says a lot about the freedom tht Bush claims he protects.
and sorry, I remember about them, but they didn't exist in my town
I keep threatening to go embroider on a pair of jeans... maybe it is time. and tie-die a t-shirt. Add some fabric to the bottom of the jeans. Braid some flowers....
And on the real down side I do remember the draft, the wire taps, my friends who came back from Viet Nam in mental pieces, Nixon Kissinger, and other things not so pleasant. The best thing about those days was probably the music, the sense of hope for the future (against all odds) and my darling little Mona. Many people in our generation to paraphrase Lillian Hellman, turned out to be political wash outs....or we wouldn't be in the mess we're in now! Did I bring everyone down? Sorry!
Welcome to today in Sweden ;)
Heh. it has been a well-kept secret. They really do not want people coming over much... US influence via TV has already begun eroding the idyllic life in the major cities like Stockholm and Malmö
Actually I appreciate all the terrific comments this article has generated,,,,,Peace!
Brought back a lot of memories for me.
Some styles I remember, Indian headbands, go go boots, tie-dye, elephant bells, chokers, cow bells, paisely, nehru collars, minis maxis, white lipstick. etc.
I laugh when I see those styles reintroduced to the young'uns.
