Iran Update

The last hurdle has been hurdled. Our passsports now have valid visas for the Islamic Republic of Iran in them. All I need to do now is buy the airline tickets, pack and wait. I am actually going to see Persepolis, Isfahan, Meshed, the Temple of the Fire Worshippers in Yezd and the Gunbad-i-Kavus. Khorasan, here I come. I am so excited. This trip really is like a dream come true.

Flounder, too bad you don't have the courage to actually, you know, do something with yourself except hide behind an anonymous login and insult people. But hewy, that's ok because every comment you leave in my post threads lead to a little bit more Gather points that lead to a bit more money that helps fund my 'vacations' to great places like Iran. So, by all means, please keep the comments coming. I need the money.

I'm not sure where Flounder gets his info, it's likely not reality-based. I doubt he's actually been to or knows much about the country he's disparaging.

Best wishes on your trip. It is refreshing and enightening to hear first-hand accounts from other countries. It strikes me that dealing with fundamentalism is a challenge faced by both the US and Iran.

A Different Face of Iran ...

Yeah, I read that one. When I was in Azerbaijan a few years ago my father and I were treated the same way. It was just amazing how marvelous the people were. Of course, when I crossed the border into Shi'a Azerbaijan from Christian Georgia I was a bit scared. I'd been traveling in Sunni Turkey for a while and was cool with that but had no idea what to expect from the Shi'a. Just peeps, you know. Good people, all curious and extremely kind.

So far, in all of my travels, I would have to say the Azeris have been the most gracious and kind. The Turks a close second. The Uzbeks are wonderful too and the Silk Road cities of Samarkand and Bukhara are ineffable in their beauty and antiquity. And the Uighurs have been the funniest. They have great senses of humor. The Kyrgyz were the most aloof, mostly because the Kyrgyz I did meet we literally nomads and we were buying honey or some such from them on the roadside. They are a people of few words, imho.
