Katie Couric's New Role

Katie Couric has topped the ratings for evening news programs since her start date at CBS on Tuesday.  I am sorry I was not home to watch the programs but I heard she did a fantastic job!  I am more of an NBC girl myself, but I may have to switch over to CBS for that hour just to watch Couric.  I miss her on The Today Show!!!

Since she had such high ratings, about 7.7 million viewers, I assume somebody here on Gather got to watch.  How did you think Katie did?

Katie will always do ok...! She has spark of intelligence combined with an qbility to put people at ease. She knows how to get a piont across without sounding pompous & she is a nice to look at...!

Haha. Donald, thanks for the comments. That is why I liked her so much on The Today Show. I almost felt comfortable with her, as if she were in my own home in the morning. I liked waking up to her and Matt. I'm definitely looking forward to finally be able to watch her in her new role next week!

Sorry folks, Couric sucks. She's asked plenty of questions that were p[rolly written down for her, but I haven't seen her ask one decent follow-up question... the mark of a real newsperson. Couric is not a news anchor, she's a news reader. There's a BIG difference.

I want my news from someone who understand the news, not from someone with a big smile.

I don't know, Dan Rather was a real news guy who was an excellent reporter but never looked comfortable as a news anchor. As David Letterman once said, he looks like he's waiting for the mother ship to come get him. LOL

Katie looks very natural, very comfortable and she has done interviews when she was with the Today Show that shows she knows how to do interviews just fine.

I think she's doing fine.

Oh and quite frankly, television news is great but print journalists are where it's at for me. They are news people who don't have to look good and sound smooth. They just need to know their stuff.

Still love Katie, though. :-)

I am not a Katie fan, she always seems to think she is better than everyone else! I really don't like her. Matt Lauer and Ann Curry are ok in my book, but Katie is super annoying. I watch NBC, and really don't find myself watching the national evening news, but if I do it is Brian Williams all the way.

I don't know about anyone else but when I watch the network news I WANT NEWS!!! I want to know what's happened the last 24 hrs not some fluff about some dog that found it's long way home. Today's news casts seem to forget about important happenings around the world. There are plenty of news magazine shows that devote hours to fluff, leave the evening news alone!
