On Thursday, September 8, 2006 Senator Becky Lourey ramped up her bid for Governor of Minnesota with several new endorsements.
Lourey says, "The overwhelming expression of support from this group of dedicated DFLers and dear friends is an inspiration to me as we push hard toward victory in the Sept. 12 primary. At the same time, their voice of unity on behalf of my candidacy sends a strong signal that this hard-working campaign is picking up steam in the battle for the DFL nomination. They recognize that I am beest-positioned for victory in November."
Among those who publicly endorsed Lourey as their DFL choice for Governor of Minnesota were George Sundstrom, former president of the Duluth Central Labor Body; Tina Welsh, treasurer of the Duluth DFL and Eighth Congressional District activist; Brad Gagnon, affirmative action officer for the Eighth Congressional District DFL; Marlys Wish, chair of the Lake County DFL; Brent Melquist, former associate chair of Lake County; Prudy Cameron, longtime director of the Eighth Congressional District; and Kerry Gauthier former Eight Congressional District DFL chair and Minnesota DFL Party treasurer.
According to Paul Austin of the Minnesota League of Conservation Voters, Lourey will participate in a live gubernatorial debate on Saturday, September 16, 2006 from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at St. Cloud University if she wins the primary election on Tuesday, September 12. So far, this is the only live gubernatorial debate that is set to focus on conservation and the environment.

One might argue that the DFL sanctioned Hatch long before he was endorsed and that makes it a closed clase. However, I was at the convention in Rochester and can say that Mr. Hatch did not handily win the endorsement.
Furthermore, if democrats really wanted a candidate to beat Pawlenty, they might consider the fact that the republicans will have a much easier time digging up (or inventing) dirt about Hatch than they would about Lourey.
Thanks so much for paying attention.
