Well, I was actually not that concerned about having to plug in my ethernet cable each time I wanted to use my laptop. But I sort of decided that I should probably make use of a co-worker's expertise in helping to get the wireless network adapter working. I was torn between installing Debian Linux or installing Kubuntu Linux. My coworker really likes Debian Linux, and he was willing to help.
I downloaded a debian etch net install iso and burned it to a DVD, My coworker liked the install-gui front end, but it didn't go exactly smooth. Something about my laptop's display wasn't getting along with x-windows. Eventually, x-windows got installed and gnome installed on top of that, ndiswrapper encapsulates my windows driver for the network card, and viola! My Debian Linux laptop is working wirelessly! The sounds may not be working like they should under windows, but that's okay. The webcam built into the laptop isn't working right now, but that's also okay.
The fact that wireless is working with the debian linux is pretty cool. I'm happy that the system works, and stability without a large exposure to viruses is a bonus.

I am happy that the system has enough resources.
