The large room had all the signs of being lived in for many generations and the odour of centuries of cleaning, polishing and tobacco smoke wafted through the room. It was of a style no longer fashionable. Perhaps old colonial but that did not matter as it was redolent with memories of people that had lived there.

wow. You gave me goose bumps. Great story. It totally captured me. I have to say, this might be my favorite story ever on Gather that I have read so far. Your descpiptions and details are marvelous. They made me feel as if I were a bug on the wall watching it happen.
And to think, I've never even heard of you before.

Hi Amy Thanks for your comments/ The husband is the father. There was no one else in her life. She was giving him the chance to get another wife. One that would give him an heir. She loved him enough to do that.
