"Possum Ball Run 2006 Poster" by Bill's Spirit
The OHC Labor Day Party hosted by the Old Hippies Corner (OHC) in beautiful downtown Paris, Texas, has officially begun!
We anxiously await the Possum Ball Run contestants (see race roster below) to coming roaring towards the finish line at noon (CDT).
Here is a map of Paris:

We are set up in the OHC Mobile Command Center at the base of the Paris Texas 65' Eiffel Tower. The tower is across from the impressive Love Civic Center at the intersection of Jefferson and South Collegiate Drive.
The Paris Chamber of Commerce has provided us concession booths brought over from the nearby fairgrounds for a Gumbo and Chili Cook off and other attractions brought in by our guests. We have a sound stage setup in the parking lot for local bands to play and there are plenty of portable bathroom facilities.
Please pick up your trash and respect the generous hospitality of Paris, Texas. Please leave the picnic site as tidy as we found it.
The local police will be controlling traffic on the main approaches to town to give the race contestants right-of-way as they approach the finish line. For the rest of us remember the basic Texas rule of the road: "Drive Friendly!"
Happy Labor Day, LET'S PARTY!!!!

Thanks, we're just getting underway. I've got to outside the OHC Mobile Command Center and fool with the generator.
BRB
Congratulations on being the first guest to sign in!
OooohWeeee!
Colonel Possum
WHEN DO WE EAT?
A big hug from the ole Colonel! Go just to the right of the Command Center and you will see the food concession booths setting up.
Food should be coming up soon but the big BBQ is right after the first racers show up at noon (CDT).
The first local band will start playing at 11am (CDT). They are really cool, "J.C. and the Glyptodonts".
OooohWeeee!
Colonel Possum
I've heard from the following racers on our special OHC Mobile Command Link:
Tom Countryman left Drury, Kansas, in his formidible "DEADHED" at 7:00am (CDT) to shouts of encouragement from the local town folks!
Big Molly burned rubber in front of Mariana T.'s front porch, Franklin, LA. Her departure was 5:00am (CDT) as planned. She has Tante Marie in a kiddie pool in the sleeper of "Miss Pete"
Elko Mono (Big Molly's BIG sister) left from Sparks, Nevada, at 11pm Friday, 9/1. She has observed two mandatory 8 hour rest stips and is now somewhere in Texas headed this way in "Miss Pearl"
Captain Ken safely left New Hampshire on his 750K Honda and his whereabouts are unknown at this time.
I'm checking for more racer updates right now.
Ooooh Weeee,
Colonel Possum
I'm going offline for a moment to mess with this pesky generator.
BRB (8:37am, CDT)
Colonel Possum
News from Captain Ken, mishap but all is well...here's the link:
Update from Captain Ken!!
Col. P.
We are well past the halfway point, it's looking like we'll arrive in good time! I decided to drive the back roads, figured the Smokies would be concentrating on the interstates.
Beautiful weather for our cruise. We have a nice cloud cover helping to keep the temps below normal.
Salud,
Tom you're looking good! No word from Big Molly yet, I just know she look off on time with tante Marie.
We'll be rolling by the time you get here.
I had a little generator problem but now the OHC Mobile Command Post is hooked up to shore power.
Del Beavis, Paris City Coordinator for our event, has been a HUGE help in getting our logistics squared away.
Don't worry about the police once you cross the Red River and come into Lamar County. They know you're coming and will be looking for your license plate "DEADHED".
A little cloudy down here but nice day for a picnic bro'
Good Luck,
Colonel Possum
Ooooh Weeee! Sure glad you checked in. We're tracking the GPS transponder on your saddle and have found your location.
You are on HWY 82 headed west for Paris. You're about 0.42 miles east of Reno, Texas.
Give Roscoe a kick with your high heel flipflops!
Good Luck!
Colonel Possum
Mariana - Whoa! sounds like Big Molly had a good time on your front porch. I hope she isn't too hung over. Still no word from "Miss Pete".
~~J~V~ We have picked you up on the OHC radar (lent to us by some of my old buddies in the USAF). You are presently over Indiana, start heading south-west or you'll miss Texas!
10-4!
Colonel Possum
Thanks. I'll drop a link to your picture in a few. Getting a little busy at the Command Post!
Ooooh Weeee,
Colonel Possum
I've told Del Beavis, our City Coordinator. He's calling the state troopers in OK to verify you're a racer in the Possum Ball Run
Here's a picture of Tom in his totally cool El Camino!
Tom Countryman is off and running
Good Luck,
Colonel Possum
Del Beavis is putting in a call to the Governor of Oklahoma. The State troopers were not notified about the Possum Ball Run. Sit tight. We'll get this sorted out!
BRB,
Colonel Possum
That was a close one. Well double good news for you. Big Molly called from a pay phone in Texarkana. She spun out earlier this morning on the levy road behing St. Martinville, LA. Tante Marie got out of the sleeper and slipped into the swamp.
Fortunately Molly lured the gator back with some raw meat she had in her beer cooler. Miss Pete is a rolling but she lost valuable time. I'd say it is still a race!!!!!
10-4!
Colonel Possum
Del Beavis our City Coordinator (Bless this man!) has assigned you Concession booth A-6. When you get here the mini-kitchen is good to go and we've got pleanty of ice.
Ooooh Weeee
Colonel Possum
P.S. first band is up in 15 minutes
Thanks for the heads up. Unlucky for you, the Texas Super Troopers all know Miss Molly and are going to give her an escort to the Lamar County line!
Good luck!
Colonel Possum
let me know lady if you ever need that fiddled with...
;)
Hey man! Glad you dropped by. Possums are fine with this. I brought "Arty" and "Miss Gray Butt" in their mini-cages. They are in the shade behind the Mobile Command Post.
Hey, I heard a rumor that you know about T-shirt making! Might want to talk to you later about this.
10-4!
Colonel Possum
Del just asked if you need an oven in your mini-kitchen?
Please advise,
Col. P.
I hooked up my laptop to an old bike light that runs off the front tire ( remember those ?). I'll check in as often as I can. (That is, if I can pedal, steer and type at the same time ).
Oh, back-draft commin', gotta go !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Paw jumpin' de crick!
Thanks for checking in!
Maw - Thanks for the picture, Big Molly and Tom have had their share of troubles so you've still got a good chance to get here first (only 48 minutes to go!)
George - Man, Del and I set up the PA but it is not the same without you. When you get here go straight to the Tower. We're broadcasting abour 30' up on a little platform outrigger. Love to give you some mick duty when you get here. Just holler, "OooohWeeee George is Here!"
10-4!
Col. P.

THEY ARE GOING TO SING THE POSSUM BALL RUN BY DONNA F.....
PARTY DOWN!!!!
Ah! We have sound!
Col. Possum, sir, we couldn't fit all the band's gear into the car, so we decided to set up a big old jam session here in the Southern Tier of NY.
In your honor, we're kicking off the tunes with "Cajun Fiddle" and "Nail That Catfish to a Tree" and then we'll really set those fiddles afire with 'Gravel Walk."
Whoop!
Our radar has you over Missouri. Keep a steady heading southeast and you'll plow right into Texas!
Wiggles,
Colonel Possum
Whoa! Glad you checked in! I'll try to tie you into the sound system via the Remote Link after the race. I need some of George Corneliussen's expertise but he'll be here this afternoon.
Thanks for thinking of us and playing a tune or two...
Cheers,
Colonel Possum
Maw - he's getting close, have Paw look out for a mule with a pretty lady with a cowboy hat!!
Mariana - the GPS has you 4.23 miles west of Reno, TX. You should be at the Paris City Limit sign any moment. Watch out for Paw Chaneyin that big ole Hemi-powered MOPAR mean machine!

Cheers,
Colonel Possum
Sorry we're late. Donna and I got to close to a black hole in Kentuck, and I see the time displacment got us here Awfully late.
Congrats to Miss Pete, Big Molly, Tom and Mariana on placing the race.
Looks like you've had a good turn out.
Party On !!!
Glad to see you and Roscoe are OK. I've been over with the Sheriff trying to sort out the big crash. They've hauled Miss Pearl off to the impound yard but they're going give Elko an OR until the court's open up tomorrow.
In the meantime, Elko took Del Beavis, City Coordinator, behind the Command Center and got him drunker than Cooter Brown on Tequila. I guess you call that good politics.
Hopefully, we can get off without a big bill for the Eiffel Tower damage. Of course Tom flatened Kathryn's concession booth with his El Camino but that's OK since she hasn't showed up yet.
Before Del got so drunk he reassigned Kathryn to share a space with the chili cookoff people. Hmmm....I'm getting hungry again.
The next band is up I better go work the PA and announce the next song...
Over n' Out!
Colonel Possum
Yes, could use an oven for the lasgna and a fridge for the Caesar salad.
Corona anyone?
Did Donna bring brownies?
This is cool, the second shift is here!!!!
Bill's Spirit & Donna F. - totally cool, those black holes are worse than potholes. You missed "J.C. & the Glyptodonts" play Donna's song (it was cool, see images of folks dancing).
Kathryn - sorry about your booth. Tom Countryman rolled over it doing about 90 mph. Join up with the Chili cookoff people and I 'll be over for a cold one soon!
Rock On!
Colonel Possum
Chili cookoff - am I hungry now ! I'll bring the Caesar Salad, Corona and the Lasagna I made...Still warm...
HEY, POSSUM BALLERS....ANYONE AWAKE AFTER ALL THAT GOOD FOOD??
Whoa! Bill I detect a second wind these folks are fed and ready to party!
FOLKS, I'D LIKE TO INTRODUCE BILL'S SPIRIT. HE DID THE GREAT POSTER FOR THE POSSUM BALL RUN....LET'S GIVE IT UP FOR BILL AND DONNA....OOOOH WEEEEE!
OK, WE GOT A SECOND BAND COMING UP, THEY WERE HELD UP WITH ALL THE POLICE ROAD BLOCKS FOR THE RACE....THEY HAIL FROM AUSTIN, TEXAS, GIVE IT UP FOR "BO JACKSON AND THE GEAR JAMMERS"...
Thanks Bill...glad you could make it bro'...the crowd loves your poster!
Col. P.
Good question! Earlier during the race Del Beavis and me did a nose dive off the Eiffel twoer when Elko Mono hit it doing at least 60 mph in her Peterbilt 379.
But...we were cold sober at the time! That's not a problem anymore, Del is three sheets with Elko behind the trailer and I've had enough Coronas to retake the Alamo!
Thanks for dropping by bro'
Colonel Possum
Whoa. I just got your second comment bro'. That is so cool. I'm thinking of sending the story of Possum Ball 2006 to the local paper after the festivities!
You made my day!
Colonel Possum
You drink and feast all day compliments of the ole Colonel. That is the coolest. Got any photos to post of those blackberrie days?
Colonel Possum
Glad you're here! The first crew had a siting of your plane but then we had the big accident with the tower. How was the Paris/Cox Airport, did the Possum Posse get there in time for your debut?
OoooohWeeee,
Colonel Possum
Got a nice gathering ere Colonel...wouldn't want anything to appen to it..Tell em Luigi!
Here's a photo of Elko Mono dancing! Survived the creash and the law intact!
Elko Mono Dancing at the Possum Ball Run 2006!
Oooooh Weeeee
Colonel Possum
Looks like my earlier comment got lost in the ether!
You're a trooper, go to booth A-12 and drinks are on me!
Give that horse some oats, there are plenty over there by Mariana's mule, Roscoe.
Cheers bro'
Colonel Possum
