A MOTHER'S DAY MEDITATION
My child, wrapping my arms about you,
I sing you to sleep.
Too big now to rock you in my arms,
so side by side we lie on your bed.
I rub your forehead,
smooth your brow and
softly whisper how
big I love you.
Since we played at the beach today,
my, "I Love You" is
as big as the ocean.
Your face isn't quite asleep and a
so-contented smile
flutters across your tired lips.
I sing your favorite hymn and
you sigh with such
sweet comfort.
I whisper,
"Keep your eyes closed
and I'll sing some more."
But you continue to pop them open
and look at my face.
"Mom, are you looking at me?"
"Yes".
"Even when my eyes are closed?"
"Yes".
She smiles so brightly.
"Do you like me to keep watch
on your face while you sleep?
"Yes, mommy, oh YES!"
"Honey, you know mommy has to go to
her own bed soon and I won't be able to
continue looking at you,
but did you know Jesus is watching
over you,
even more intently than I am?"
"I know...He's lying right here beside me."
"And honey, He never leaves you;
He never slumbers nor sleeps.
Isn't that wonderful?"
"Yes, Mommy....:, as she slips off to sleep.
Thank you, Father, that you never slumber nor sleep;
Thank you than wihen I can't be there for my little one,
that You hold her.
Thank you that when I fail her, You don't.
Thank you that when I'm in confusion,
you're in control;
and thank you that when she walks away
from me so vulnerable and all alone,
I know she won't be.
Amen!
