Thanks for creating this group, Bonnie! I have thought about posting some suggestions but I didn't really know where to post....
My number one suggestion is to make the "Remember Me" function really work. And I am not talking about simply remembering my User ID. I am talking about never having to type in my (User ID and) Password again. Other online forums I belong to allow me to log in once, and then every time when I go there, I am automatically logged in. I never have to type in my ID and Password (unless I deliberately logged out).
Of course, there should still be an option to log out. That way, if the member is using a public computer, he/she can log out completely and prevent other people from getting on Gather.com under his/her User ID. But I am sure most of us use Gather.com via a private computer, and not needing to log in every other hour is a great thing.

I agree this is an inconvenience, especially when you click on a link and start typing in the comment box and then it stops you after a word and moves you to sign in - well at least it takes you back to where you were.
For most of the time, even if I click on the "Remember Me" box, the next time Gather.com still shows me blank ID box and blank password box. And sometimes when I click on the "Remember Me" box, the Gather.com page shows my ID already filled in, but I still have to type in the password and hit the Login button.
So my point is, I don't want the "Remember Me" to ONLY remember my ID. I want it to remember ME (both ID and password) so I will never need to type in anything again....
By the way, I am using IE 6.0. I don't know if browser matters.
I use Firefox...I think this also worked when we used IE, but maybe not...I'm thinking it didn't work...but it's been a few months, so I am not certain. But it does work with Firefox.
Btw, FWIW, Firefox is faster than IE and has multiple tabs for easier browsing.
I'm commenting on your entire series here and have several tabs open for this...I comment on one article in the series, while waiting for the other ones to download on other tabs...
Makes commenting much easier...
free Firefox download.

Something else along this same line is that any time I want to view Gather in a new tab or window - say I want to open a Gather link in a new tab - I get logged out and have to log back in. It's very frustrating to have my session expire just because I'm trying to view multiple Gather pages at the same time.
I'm on dial-up too and windows will and can be set to remember you, try it! It asks me the first time I log on and then afterwards, it just does it. I have IE also.
