Yesterday I rode the Green line to work, as usual. I get on at the Science Park Station and swipe my monthly card when I get into the front car. When I left work and swiped my card at the turnstiles at Arlington Station, I couldn't figure out why it would work. After a couple of tries it finally dawned on me...it's September!
Digging through my backpack for $1.25 for a token, I found $1. I had just emptied out all of my change into a container I have in my office at work. I collect change and use it to buy coffee in the morning. I had meant to stop at an ATM in my building but had forgotten. So, there I stood with an expired monthly pass an not enough money for a token. If they had the new electronic pass machines, I could have purchased another pass with a debit card.
Hoping for a little kindness, I got in line for the token booth. When it was my turn, I held up my monthly pass to the window and explained that I forgot it was a new month. Putting my dollar in the tray, I told the cashier that was all the money I had on me and asked if I could still get a token. She pushed the dollar back to me and motioned for me to go through.
Thank you, Arlington Station Cashier, for being sympathetic!

BTW, it seems you have that font change problem here as well.
