Having lived in Europe and traveled to quite a few countries over there I've become a certifiable Francophile...With more than a dozen trips under my belt, I've seen most of the country and come away with my favorites...
The Dordogne... where prehistoric caves abound and where you can see the writing on the walls that are 30 to 40 thousand years old..amazing!
Provence... the light that inspired the Impressioniest painters who produced those glorious masterpieces..
Normandy... the landing beaches, where your heart breaks as you look out at the sea of marble markers over the graves of our brave Americans who fought there.
Loire Valley...Those magnificant chateaux, each with an incredible story to tell
Champagne region...Drink in the bubbly.. visit the Reims Cathedral, the Museum of Surrender and so much more
The Cote de Azur...Tiny little villages perched on hillsides looking out over the sparkling Mediterranian sea and the famous coastal cities of Monte Carlo, Cannes, Nice and my little favorite town of Menton
Auver's ser Oise...This little town just a short drive from Paris, is where VanGogh went to live the last months of his life...walk in his footsteps..see his paintings come to life as you look at some many icons that were his subjects...Then visit is gravesite where he is buried beside his brother Theo...Their graves intertwined by the Ivy that grows over both.
And Paris...what can be said about Paris...The city Hitler wanted to burn to the ground but was unsuccessful, thank God his generals decided to disobay his order..I'll probably have much more to write about Paris :)
Anyone else have any favorite French finds? I would love to hear about them..
A bientot, until the the next time
Barbara
