Janet B.'s article; "Would You Vote For Condolezza Rice in '08" was revealing; and made me chuckle at coincidence.
I spewed the idea of Condi running in '08 to someone just yesterday. They scoffed that the GOP wouldn't push a candidate that was both black and a woman. "Too much, Too quick" being a known squeal of the GOP's foot draggers.
They may be right. Some GOP candidates are still apparently comfortable using slurs against people they don't know, to solidify feelings of resentment that others might have. It's distasteful to many voters, and parallels the politicians in "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou," to my mind.
But, Condi just might be one of those unique Republicans who could get a disaffected middle-of-the-roader like me to vote for them.
After six years of monarchical, conservative, apple-pie evangelicalism, I smiled shocked when Condi told NBC audiences that the Chinese character for "crisis" contains the characters for both "danger" and "opportunity."
How New Agey !!
And when she talks, she talks like an intelligent person; cadencing her speeches and responses as explanations of what is known. She also seems to listen; and change her views and plans when the inclusion of new information warrants it. And she seems to genuinely care about the welfare of people.
Janet's article paints the picture of a compassionate active intellectual. The Democrats may burn me in Hell, but Condi is starting to look like the avatar I had pegged Hillary to fill.
Right now, I don't know. The passionately compassionate liberal and moderate forces seem too divided amongst themselves to come up with one or two strong, clear voiced candidates that are able to inspire enough of the hearts and minds of the votership.
I remain highly suspicious of the Repubs. Their belief that "a lie for the greater good is not a lie" troubles me mightily. It leaves me wondering if Condi may just be a GOP glamour.
And, I'm still feeling pretty adamant about never voting Republican again.
Time will tell.

Dont get me wrong. I love GW But I DONT AGREE with him ALL the time. I am with you I cant say I will vote republican again.
Ditto
Time WILL tell
Aside from that, the GOP will never be able to overcome its genetic hatred for blacks and women long enough to even get close enough to allow DIEBOLD to swing an election for her.
Why? Do you like failure of leadership?
Clark Kent - Yeah.., Diebold. :-(
Linda - It is my understanding that the Repubs are all puppets, having given up their will to the grand games of their party. Dems to, for that matter, but not so rigidly. At least the Dems try to pal-you-up and win you over before inflicting their will.
Sorry, I can only call them as I sees them. A strike is a strike is a strike. It isn't democrats who've been fighting against civil and equal rights for blacks and women over the past few decades. I understand you being upset over it, but again, facts is facts. If you don't like associating with a political party that's viewed as the party of bigotry, discrimination, and hatred, choose a different party, because the GOP owns that label.
Flounder - Repubs have a problem with the racist shoe. Even recently, it wasn't a Dem that called someone "maccaca."
Sandy - Like the ones Clark mentioned?
as my grandfather was fond of saying: she can shit in her hat and pull it down over her ears.
"I will always see her linked to this administration and for that reason I will not vote, or even consider voting, for her. She is a part of the collective mind that got us into this senseless war and I see her as a puppet of Cheney, Bush and Rove."
"I spewed the idea of Condi running in '08 to someone just yesterday."
Would have made me spew too. Definitely a toilet-hanging moment.
Allen's mother is of French Polynesian desent, so he probably did hear the word growing up. He used it correctly in his speaking, saying to the man.
George Allen has been pictured with a Confederate flag in the background that he owns...he says he collects flags. He also has been pictured wearing the Confederate flag in his lapel. He says it's because he is a rebel by nature.
Is this a news worthy thing? IMO, no more than if John McCain goes to Bob Jones University. It is not something that should be a surprise to anyone, but it is offensive to many.
Has too much been made of this...maybe, but at least people who aren't from his state and haven't heard him speak or know of his record, now know that he has no problem using racial slurs against 20 year old students of foreign decent.
And I can see her turning into a reptile right before my eyes just like the rest of them. LOL. (David Icke reference there, don't take it seriously.)
I don't know anyone of either political persuasion in the armed forces who has a good thing to say about her, or Rummy.
Thanks for all the info and insights. I'll be sure to keep both eyes open.
It is a white lie, (no pun intended) that all Southern Democrats were racist assholes. Mine were very liberal, and still are. The South is a Conundrum.
I see Republicans that ARE trying to get their party back from the NeoCons and the Religious Right. They have a big fight on their hands, and I don't envy them.
I see a Democratic Party that has been playing defense for so long that they've forgotten what they stand for, which is supposed to be the common working man and woman, and for civil liberties and civil rights.
There is way too much corporatism in both parties. There is way too much covering of asses and not enough air and light.
I hear encouraging voices on both sides, and I wonder what horrible things that will be said about them, by the real powers that be, to stifle them.
Unfortunately - the more likely ticket is McCain and Condi.
Who would the Democrats field to beat that?
I still say beware the blind party voting, it will change nothing.
THE GOP: Small tent. Big closet.
You may be too young to remember the Demo party of the 50's and 60's. It was Eisenhower who started enforcing civil rights laws. If it wasn't for Republicans Lyndon would never have passed the landmark Civil Rights Act. This country doesn't have a good record on either side regarding African Americans. Even now, billions of dollars are being spent to educate students who are English Learners (ie latinos and Asians) while the longest lasting rement of plantation days is the poor education African Americans are getting for their communities. How do you explain the Democrats inaction on this most important issue? The Republicans have taken the lead by offering what many African Americans want in their communities - more choice and an accountable education system.
It is entirely possible that Rice and Powell were handed a bag full of errors and asked to sell them to the American people. This would explain many of the things both have said on the record that history has shown simply not to be accurate.
However, in the new style of politics America seems to have adopted, nothing is ever admitted and noting is ever discussed. So, how do we know whether Ms Rice was "following orders" or " in on the decision making from day one" concerning the issues that involve her since 9/11 ?
My gut feeling, as of today, is that I don't trust her. Not necessarily because she's a "bad" choice for president, but because I don't have a feeling that she is her own person. She seems to me like someone who is best at middle-management, because she will try her best to sell whatever she is told to sell.
I haven't seen her do anything that shows she has her own path to follow.
It will probably not happen, but both major parties need to consider finding a person that is educated, in touch with our country, and that can think for himself/herself. Our country and the World would be so much better off if we could vote for the best of two excellent people instead of being forced to vote for and elect the best of two very poor choices.
No matter who is elected it is not going to be easy to get the World out of the mess that "W" and his gang has played such a big part in creating.
I would never vote Condi... except on Survivor.
Very well stated. Too bad some forget pre 9/11.
I would love to see an Independent come along and win this thing. An Atheist perferably and/or gay to counter this march to Fascism we have been on the last 6 years.
Back on subject, Condi seems to be competent enough, but has tied herself to Bush to closely to be seen as anything but a Bush backer.
Obviously, you havent seen the NEW Al Gore.
He has been on SNL and the Daily show and was anything but wooden.
As a matter of fact, Mr. Gore was funny as hell on SNL when he adressed the country as the "President of the United States" Good stuff, good stuff.
George - "..because she will try her best to sell whatever she is told to sell.. I haven't seen her do anything that shows she has her own path to follow. "
That would be telling, if she showed at some level that she had enough ability to make-up for poor planning with exquisite administrating; and enough perception and backbone to say NO to catastrophic ideas that might come from her string pullers.
Clark - Those darn strings make it awfully hard to see which puppets would make good masters. The current pullers never take any credit for their mismanagement, they seem only to heap it on the supposed incompetence of underlings.

What the people need is a superhero and a justice league that's got a better handle on Truth, Justice and The American Way than the current Repubs seem to have.

Howard Dean made a good showing on Face The Nation Sunday morning. He looked like he had some guiding principle, purpose or goal burning strongly in him.
If that kind of thing is spreading around the Dem party, I can't wait to see what ideology will come to the front, and who will bring it.
First, there is NO CHANCE IN THE WORLD that any one dissatisfied with Bush and his failed WAR POLICY IN IRAQ is going to vote for any one associated with him, and his Cabinet, and that includes the demon spawn over at the State Department. The woman is evil, cut in the same cloth of both Cheney and Rumsfield.
Further, if she were to even run for president, a lot of her own DIRT is going to come out...for instance, remember the IRAQI Press Gate that was conveniently swept under the carpet...a key figure in that was Christian Bailey...to this day, I am still wanting someone to explain how it is he KNEW so many people in the Bush chain, including Condi from her days out on the West Coast. Trust me, she has no interest in running for president, because she wants to keep her skeletons in the closet where they belong.
