When I first saw the show I immediately hated the character of House, but I found myself attracted to the show. After a couple of episodes I realized that there's a part of me (and probably most people) that wishes, sometimes, I could say everything that came to mind...no matter how hurtful. I know I wouldn't like myself if I did do that, but there's this urge anyway. I'm finding that watching this television show is a way of venting that urge...allowing it to be acted out by House.
One of the redeeming factors of the show (other than amazing medical investigation, intelligent dialouge, and a bit of humor) is that most episodes include a scene or two with House's co-workers talking about his behavior and why he acts the way he acts. They've learned to accept him as he is because they understand the life experiences that cause him to act as he does. They don't believe it's the only choice he has and they always let House know they don't agree with is tactics, but they still remain his friend. Interesting, complex relationships!
The third season of House will start Tuesday, September 5th. It's a show I couldn't take a steady diet of, but I like dipping into that world from time to time.

And I know exactly what you are talking about. Sometimes I wish I could just say everything that is on my mind too. . . But man I know I sure would feel guilty if I did. I don't like to hurt people. I guess that's a good thing.
I like hearing the unfiltered truth rather than a bunch of insincere crap.
I am going to try to catch this next season a bit more than I did the last.
He's another version of Dr. Phil. I think you can enjoy watching people like that, but you would never wanted to be treated the same. At least, I wouldn't! Besides the fact that I think there's a better way of approaching situations than by degrading people.
As a healthcare professional I can honestly tell you that these facts are undisputable:
1. People with chest pain will tell you that they have never had chest pain before even though it has been going on for a ____(insert time)
2. Drug seekers will tell you that they are allergic to every med except for the one that they are looking for.
3. People that are having either chest pains or a stroke will put off going to the hospital/calling 911 until they are almost out of the window of time that we need to fix them.
4. People will call 911 for at 3 a.m. for something that has been going on for 2 years.
5. Denial kills people everyday.
I know nurses, doctors, paramedics, and other medical professionals that make special time to watch House. This really is a show that is written for the medical community, it is written for our macabre sense of humor that we must have to survive what we see everyday.
I completely stand by my Dr. Phil comparison. Both House and Dr. Phil tear people down in the name of helping them. Even if all of the statements you have said are pure truth, I do not believe that tearing someone down, being rude and disrepectful is the best way to help someone. It may work in the moment, but it certainly won't work in the long term and could cause more problems in the long run.
