I was going through my coupons and came across one for New Jif To Go. This looks like the six pack of Pringles chips or the apple sauce cups, yet this is simply peanut butter. Fresh-roasted peanut taste in every bite.
Companies are making everything more convenient for the family on the go. Yet this is just peanut butter, so you would need to pack a knife and either a baggie of apples or a packet of crackers to go with this. Hardly seems convenient to me.
Why not save some money and make some graham cracker and peanut butter snacks, place them in a baggie and there you go a snack that is quick and easy, plus tasty.
This is getting out of hand with all the brands offering new varieties of their products, making their bottom line higher while leaving the consumer strapped for cash by buying into this convenient lifestyle on the go.
I suggest putting an end to it before school starts, no need to purchase all these grab n go smaller sized items to put into lunches. Take a few extra minutes one night a week and make up some baggies of goodies.
Target has the best prices for these type of items. Place raisins in a baggie instead of buying a six or twelve pack of little bitty boxes. Get a large cansister of chips and divide them up yourself.
I have a hard time finding milk containers for lunch as they only sell them in quart size, so sometimes I will pay the high price at Burger King to get one for my son's milk so he does not get tired of the juice variety I pack.
A few weeks ago I found a nine pack of milky way chocolate milk containers for $5.00 at Big Lots. I have some left in the cabinet so he can be the talk of the lunch room when they go back, plus these taste so smooth and rich, although 2% milk and we prefer skim milk.
I buy the package of soy milk boxes that contains three individual boxes, that look like juice boxes at Whole Foods for my youngest son for his lunch. These cost $2.09 and quite expensive, but I am trying to get my son to drink with a straw and consume items similar to what kids at school do. It was also getting tiresome cleaning out the lunch bag and backpack daily from the mess resulting from the plastic container with his soymilk since the aide would not dump the contents and let him toss it inside.
This article I wrote for my site has many resources for lunches.

BTW, I love Big Lots. I find lots of things there that I wouldn't buy otherwise.
Graham crackers and peanut butter - YUM!
Also try an apple, cored, and filled with PB mixed with raisins.
If they don't do this already, you could suggest that your grocery store set-up a free coupon exchange where people can drop off the coupons they don't need (and others, who can't afford the Sunday paper, can take the ones they need). I know of at least one Cub Foods that does this.
Aldi is another good grocery store. They don't have lots of advertising or fancy displays, so their food is very cheap even without sales and coupons.
i try to buy a bag of mixed snacks , pretzels, fish and star shaped crackers and then divide it into ziplocks bags..those are a great investment-i don't have to deal with washing out boxes, it weighs less and works!
carrots sticks and dried fruit are also a good investment though the carrot sticks come back often uneaten , they go to the rabbits! we try to recycle most things..i find the kids do not eat sandwhiches- these will be going to the ducks or birds if they are not moldy..
any more ideas for a good healthy snacks?
by the way , for saving on a dentist, try to encourage kids to drink water with their snacks..i bought nice water bottles and they look so cool no one cares its' only water..juice is very bad for teeth if not brushed..so that is a big saving there on the dentist!
