A period of industry at the expense of self. I appreciate the dark lush back ground and somber muted shading. Most impressive are the grayed smog stained hoods.
Rene Magritte did paint some more pictures like the one above....

Les Amants by Rene Magritte seems to speak to dozens of meanings and yet speaks of a dual theme of isolation and loss of self to society in every case.
