Missing e-mails and other Gather or maybe not...

Gather dying on you??? No Notifications in e-mail???

Any of you had problems getting comment notifications or article notifications? Any of you new to the software called Thunderbird or any of the many others that have spam filters built in? Well, High Flying Spider Woman Liz Rice-Sosne has just experienced the silence of no mail from gather... and we all know that being forced to go cold turkey with an addiction like Gather can be almost like having a close friends die... or lots of them die as there are lost of people Liz would have lost completely because so many of us love her and are connected to her.

So what is the problem, you might ask? Well quite simply it is a setting, settings, settings, and if I have failed to mention it is settings...

Which ones you might ask? Well I don't know YET...

I am downloading a copy of thunderbird right now to test it out, so that I might guide anyone with adjustments. (It's Liz's Idea that I write an article on this...)

Anyhow remember these 2 words when working with websites and new programs... "Don't Panic...." they are bright friendly letters on the Hitchhikers Guide the Galaxy…

SO "Don't Panic...." and please let me know if your having simler problems with e-mail programs and tell me the name and version number and I will see if I can figure it out. (Why did Liz ask me? Well I am one gen. ed. away from my Associates in Comp Tech. so she thinks I might know something lol good luck with that)

the truth is that orange downgrade of gather Inc sucks orange bad-- when it takes longer than 4hours to upload and article and you end up reloading omages more than 5 times, it really is the shits.

I switched to Firefox a few months ago. The multiple tabs enables me to have several articles open while they download, great for photos, long comment threads, or just keeping track of authors.

Oh and before I forget,

Yahoo and other online e-mail companies sometimes have good anti-spam that also blocks things like gather, In yahoo I believe that there is a place you can set to receive the e-mails you want.
I prefer Google e-mail. free and they give you almost 3 gigs of space for your e-mails, that one wont block Gather, I have had no trouble with it at all, and if it doesn't sort out some gather mail, just look in the spam folder and get the e-mail.

Heh, I was publiching an article totaly on another subject and then.... it showed me a java error on the page. so I went back one page then reposted it and yes then there were 2
...

grrrr that one is a coding error of some sort in the either java or javascript for the asp of the page Gather need to look into it.

i was getting gather emails and then they just stoped for no reason they were not going to spam filter or getting lost somewhere when i checked my profile some of the check marks had been deleted not sure how that happened but i put them back and been getting the emails ever since

The posting thing I would check all the settings for your email, if you dont know where it is... goto mygather
top left hand blue box with your icon and name in it at bottom click on email settings then you can check or unceck as needed for various groups and people...

My problem is not emails, it is group access. Any "Protected Content" won't show up for me. And yes, I have the little box checked to let me see it.

MrEl F - the protected content is a function of your Guarded Viewing (which should be off to let you see protected content) The Guarded viewing feature is located under Settings and Preferences.

I'm now on my fifth day of involuntary Gather withdrawal...not a single notification since early last week.. nothing, nil, nada, zilch.. Not even the idiotic ones that notify me when I do something like post or comment.. This, after averaging 100+ daily for the first few weeks after signing up and before understanding how the settings worked. So I've checked all the right boxes, checked AOL, checked Yahoo, sent emails to Gather... and am receiving a thundering silence in response. HELP????? (p.s. tried to post this earlier, but it wouldn't post... bets, anyone?)
