I had the most interesting Psychology 101 course. I believe the instructor (not professor, I went to a community college) was a little psycho herself. There were just too many strange situations in her classroom to think otherwise.
One such incident happened in relation to the Nature vs. Nurture debate. She talked about a study involving a pair of twins. One twin was allowed to grow and develop normally. The other twin was "tied down" in some way so that he didn't have the opportunity to walk and was kept in isolation. It end up that the child never learned to walk. (This is what Professor Psycho told us, but I alway thought she made up this story.) Thus, for her, this proved that Nature ruled over Nurture.
Being the inquisitive person that I was, and hadn't experienced this instructor's odd behavior yet, I raised my hand to ask a question. I asked, "What if the child that was "tied down" was kept in the same room with his/her twin? Do you think when the child was released, he/she would attempt to walk mimicking the sibling's actions?" She gave me an angered look and responded with, "That's quite cruel to tied down a child!" And on she went with the class.
I sat there dumbfounded. What? I... Who's idea was it to tie down the child to begin with. It wasn't mine?
