I'm posting these pictures with only a minimum of commentary (mostly because I have a lot to do today here in Tennessee and shouldn't be spending time posting pictures about Tibet). This photo essay is Part 2 of the "View through the Windshield" series, and I've decided to post only pictures from Tibet in this installment. A Part 3, which will include other countries, will be posted later.
The picture above and the one below are taken in the very eastern section of Tibet, near the border with Sichuan Province.

The next day, after the passengers spent the night in a rest house, the same bus took us to the town of Chamdo. The next two pictures are about an hour from Chamdo.

Two days later we were finally within hours of Lhasa. Since more people live along this stretch of highway, there were more obstructions, like yak herds.

After spending a few days in Lhasa, I set out on a four-day journey to Kathmandu along the Frienship Highway...

And here ends the brief glimpse of "Tibet through the Windshield."

Have you had a chance to ride the new train that goes from Bejing to Tibet?
One of my dreams has always been to see Tibet, Lhasa, and the Potala Palace. I won't make it, but this gives me a real sense of what is there. Thanks!
Carol - I'm glad you noticed the yak, though I should warn you that most herds like this actually are made up of a cow-yak crossbreed. Pure yak are bulkier.
Patrick - No, I haven't seen the railway. It was still under construction when I was there.
I hope I can get to Lhasa next summer. Maybe I'll get to take the new Qinghai-Tibet railway.
I wonder Joel, of all the places you've been to, which did you like the best, and is there any place you'd consider staying in, rather than returning to the US?
