My heart is aching;

I feel so scared;

I don't know

what you're feeling

or thinking,

and I need you

like flowers need the rain;

I can't imagine

never seeing you again;

You gentle my spirit,

You challenge my soul,

You fill me with laughter,

I don't want to let go

of all that we share,

of all that we are,

of all that we can be;

Please don't wander far.

Cheryl, I felt that way when I sent my sons off to school, and when I said farewell to my father as he slipped away to whatever awaits us after this life. I guess what I'm saying is, I can read this as a successful poem on any number of levels, and I think that's how a good poem ought to work. Bravo!

Cheryl, I read this this Sunday morning and my heart is beating ninety to nothing as I can not locate my daughter. I thought she was in bed and to my surprise she is not. Yes she is nineteen but you never quit worrying about your children. I'm naturally thinking the worst. Very powerful poem.
