While most people think soaking their sore tootsies in a regular pan of hot water is the bee's knees, I must report to you that investing $20-35 in an electric Whirlpool Footbath is a vast improvement over using a mere plastic pan.
The massaging action of the water wiggling its way around your toes and ankles, the nubbies on the bottom where you can stimulate your tired dogs, and, if you obtain the cadillac model, the nubby rollers to massage the tender underneath of your howling pups is excellent and worth the extra buck or two...if you can locate one.
Sometimes they are easier to find around the holidays, and make a great gift--just be sure to get one for yourself!
With Epsom Salts--very inexpensive--and other specialty footbath salts which preferrably have Dead Sea Salts in them, you can end your day with an invigorating and healthful session of soaking and massage. You'll sleep better, too!
As you know, Reflexology informs us that organs and glands have corresponding points in our feet--one reason why when our feet hurt, we feel bad all over.
And Dr Scholl's *Swedish File is a good thing to have on hand so that after you've soaked and thoroughly dried your dogs, you can gently remove built-up dead skin from the (ugly?) bottoms of your feet.
Follow with your favorite lotion, of course, and if you're game, begin massaging if you can't finagle someone else into doing it. Even the simplist massage at this point will feel absolutely marvelous, so if you think you don't know how, believe me--you do. By now, you're standing on the shoulders of the Whirlpool Footbath, so there's no way you can go wrong.
A long-ago elderly friend of mine always said he'd never had a cold in his (long) life. His secret? At the earliest hint of a problem, he'd soak his feet in the hottest water he could stand until the water was cool, then do it a second time. My belief is that he was triggering his immune/endocrine system--smart man!
There are many Reflexology books on Amazon and in bookstores if you want to know why your big toe is especially sore, etc (pituitary gland needs stimulating), so read up, if you like. The nubbies in the footbath are great for checking out the big toe--the center of it on the bottom is the spot for the pituitary.
So what are you standing around for when you could be whirlpoolin'?

Zzz-z-z-zz!
Some newer grocery stores in this area are using them--stores with huge acreage, too--but if they think I'm schlepping around on them they've read me very very wrong!
