My dad was the first young man in Thurston County, WA to be notified that his draft number had been called. I am sure, were he alive today he would tell you that he never won another dang thing in his life!
He immediately joined the Navy and eventually attained the rank of AMM 2C (aviation machinist's mate, second class). His one claim to fame during his time as a AMM was that he "strapped ol' "Bull" Halsey into his plane". I imagine that was a lot more exciting than he let on.
Dad served on New Caledonia during the war, servicing planes that came from the carriers fighting the battles in the South Pacific. When they worked on the planes they had to do a very good job because the pilots would make them go up with them to test out the plane after maintenance. I know that would "inspire" me!
I included his baby picture, just because it is so cute (to me), as well as the picture of him on the 1939 Harley when he was 19. When ur son was that age he was the spitting image of his grandfather in that picture.
