I think what I am going for here is.....what did you love as a kid that today's generation is missing out on.....and conversely what did experiences did you dislike as a kid that this generation is missing.
1) I really miss getting excited because a movie was coming on a certain night (i.e. Wizard of Oz, Sound of Music, And Rudolph Animation Christmas Baby New Year Type Thing, and/or Charlie Brown Specials) I remember planning the day around the event and that it meant popcorn and apples. And that we might buy a bottle of coca cola.
2) I miss the dangerous fun stuff like slip n slip, lawn darts, talking to hippies (i swear my mom warned me), pop rocks and coke.
3) Jiffy Pop!!! I know it is still here but I am spoiled now.
4) Dining Rooms and special China to eat with. On the one hand, what is the point of having special China if youdon't used it....on the other hand...how special it was when you could eat off of it!!
5) Playing out side all day and as far as you could into the night.
6) Reading Laura Ingalls and wanting to be Laura Ingalls. And Shirley Temple.
7) Roller Skating with four wheels on each foot at the skating rink and playing shoot the duck, skating couples, and four corners.
8) Walking to school, relatively unaware of dangers that lurked....besides the hippies....lol. God I wanted to be a hippie!
9) Riding in the Back of a pick up truck or an El Camino
10) Candy counter at Sears.....where I would always buy Swedish Fish. The come in a box now but they really don't taste the same and I don't anticipate them as much. I like crinkly bags of sweets and nice older ladies would tell you how lovely and patient you were. And nice lunch ladies who jazzed up the school lunch.
and a bonus....
11) I miss knowing my neighbors and playing with the children on the block. i miss visiting the older people in the neighborhood who would give you underwear and ribbon candy for christmas. and 7-11 penny candy that was a penny
Ok and the 10 we don't miss....
1) Waiting for a phone call all day
2) Certain leftovers being warmed on the stove.
3) Gas Lines in the heat.....oh wait....we have those today too....only not as usual
4) Diaper Shorts - does anyone remember these? Hated it!!
5) Scratched favorite records (vinyl)......I don't care what anyone says....8 tracks were awesome.
6) Jelly shoes. Nothing grosser than encasing your sweaty feet in plastic.
7) burnt Jiffy pop
8) Looking in the JcPenney Catalog thinking that the shoes and the stockings and the cute little hat came with the out fit....waiting 2 weeks....to discover you have been jipped.
9) Sea Monkeys.....saving your money to buy Sea Monkeys to discover they are only shrimp or something.
10) Eating your lunch from tin foil or waxed paper wrap.
This was fun!!! Ihad more trouble with the second list. I loved the 70s/80s!!

I don't miss gas ovens that you had to light with a match or watches that you had to wind every day.
Thanks for the trip down memory lane
Me and my son still skate on 4 wheels. Shoot the duck is his favorite trick. I can still get down but not too sure about putting the leg out!
I just made Jiffy Pop a few days ago.
There are so many things kids just don't do anymore. Things that are considered too dangerous now. Why weren't they dangerous when we were kids?
I never wore a helmet for anything. We rode big wheels down steps. Rode out bikes (without helmets) for miles and miles every day. We played outside doing who knows what untill the street lights came on. Our moms didn't care as long as we weren't in the house everything was good. I could think of so many things that I did. My son doesn't do any of them. I ask him to go with me to build a clubhouse in the woods. He looks at me like I am totally nuts. I want to actually build something out of trees? Just go to the store and buy a clubhouse! Kids are so spoiled.
also loved - my mrs. beasley doll, my ginormous puffy headphones, peel-off nail polish, and jelly bracelets. and 8-tracks were definitely awesome.
uncle was trying to light the new gas oven. It had been running for a minute. told us to shut up...lit the match and WHOOOOOOSH.....lost his eyebrows for a couple months
Hell, no.
Yep Young MC. Rapping was busting a move.
That, and turning on the faucet in the kitchen and drinking out of that also. Weird kids.........
Maybe you can make me a skateboard one day.....oh I have some skateboard stories I could tell you.
1.drive in movies
2. being able to walk around the neighborhood without wondering what or who was around
3. saddle shoes
4.tretorns
5. Box Car Children Books
6. Happy Hollister Books
7. Having mom/dad read the books to you while we were on a sailing vacation
8. Those funny ice creams that were shaped like Holiday items, ie X-mas trees and were wrapped in wax paper - this maybe a New England thing
well,it is not 10 things but they are all good to me!
(1) Flying cars
(2) Teleportation
(3) Rocket shoes
(4) My robot girlfriend
(5) My talking dog
(6) X-ray vision
(7) Space vacations
(8) Meals-in-a-pill
(9) The Wookie Basketball League
(10) Looking forward to living past 500
I don't miss the severely low levels of solid earth or those flying killer robots.
By the way, I grew up in the future.
2) I miss the dangerous fun stuff like slip n slip, lawn darts, talking to hippies (i swear my mom warned me), pop rocks and coke.
4) Dining Rooms and special China to eat with. On the one hand, what is the point of having special China if youdon't used it....on the other hand...how special it was when you could eat off of it!!
5) Playing out side all day and as far as you could into the night.
It is sad that our kids cannot expereince the less stressful days. Thanks for posting
I don't miss: bullies; girls who knew just what to say to make the sky fall; getting a live bottle rocket stuck in your shirt; my first grade teacher.
I sure do miss the good ole days. And I always try to temper it with the great things we have now but you know....I wish everyone could have lived in the 70s if only for a day.. it was a great time to grow up.
I liked drinking out of the hose, too, that particular flavor, must have been rubber and the rust from the nozzle.
I remember the first time I saw color TV, I was 7, we were at my aunt's house, it was Sunday night and Walt Disney came on, wow, what a thrill for a little girl. I never knew when they showed the NBC peacock that it meant the show was in color. It was all black and white for us! I was in 8th grade when we got our first color TV.
I also remember window fans without a protective cover...we were told to keep our fingers out of the fan, and we did.
I also remember diaper shorts, I loved mine until I wasn't admitted into a restaurant because they were 'not proper attire'. I was in my 20's and, unlike today, built to wear them :)
I also remember eating my bologna and mayonnaise sandwich wrapped in Handiwrap that had been sitting in my hot locker for four hours, it tasted great and I never got food poisoning.
I wanted to live in the Addams Family house, but not the Munsters, because their's was dirty. I wanted to have Kitty Cat and Thing. We had a pull doorbell on our house, but no fog horn, just a bell.
I remember waiting for special shows to come on TV. My siblings and cousin still tease me about making me sit through The Wizard of Oz with them, because I hated it and still do. I was and still am petrified of those awful flying monkeys and that nasty tree that slaps Dorothy.
Nice list. I enjoyed the trip down memory lane, thank you. :) It was a nice time to grow up.
1. The Wonderful World of Disney (on Sunday nights)
2. Penny candy
3. Wishing I was a member of the Van Trap family (Sound of Music)

5. Walking/riding bike everywhere!
6. Taking a roll of quarters to the arcade... and having it last all day
7. Taking a friends bus to school rather than your own
8. Big Wheel, Sit n Spin and Honda Kick n Go
9. Going trick or treating with a group of friends and no parents
10. Growing up in a neighborhood where everyone knew everyone
I miss playing Barbies with my friends right out on the front lawn!
I don't miss being the "remote control" for the t.v...I was the youngest afterall and always got yelled at that I was turning the dial too fast or too hard and I was going to break it!
I loved roller skating... can't tell you how many countless hours I spent skating on our gigantic back patio concrete slab...listening to my Sony Walkman (how cool was I?)
You know what else I miss. This will give you a chuckle. I miss feeling BRILLIANT because I could figure out all the Scooby Doo Mysteries and SAD because I realized everyone else could too.
I was the family remote control, too. Must have been the job of every youngest child.
do you remember being afraid of the principal's paddle and then remembering that it was never really used...that just the idea was terrifying?
i remember the stories...that you would have to bend over and touch your toes....that it had holes to give it more smack....
1. Being a hippie (people really were told not to talk to us???)
2. Skipping school to have a sit-in ;)

9. Coming home at dark and the doors were always unlocked and I didn't lock them when I got home either.
10. Security, if you weren't playing in your own yard, your neighbors parents watched out for all of us.
Things I don't miss....
1. Being afraid of the principles paddle and having it used...........on his son, who was in my class; he came back to class crying!
