Strange name -- Great food!
I had food delivered from Cafe Podima this weekend. I have never been to this cafe, I only have a paper menu, so I wasn't sure what to expect. Their menu includes pizza, salads, sandwiches, roll-ups, soups, calzones, and even protein shakes and frozen yogurt.
My partner and I decided we'd order a variety of food so that we could try several things. I had to be home all weekend (I brought home a lot of work from the office), so left overs were welcome. We ordered a small mushroom pizza, two sandwiches, and one salad. Before the tip, the total bill was $27.00. And that was certainly not a bad deal, especially considering we both made two meals out of it all.
The pizza is deep-dish, a little light on the sauce. I'm picky about sauce; I can taste sweetness in tomato sauce when no one else can. No sweetness in this sauce. It had a great flavor. Oh, and this baby was smothered with mozerella. They were a little stingy with the mushrooms, but that and not quite enough sauce are the only bad things I can say about it. The small is just a bit larger than a "personal pan pizza" variety. It was just perfect to share with my partner.
The sandwiches were amazing! I couldn't believe how much meat they stuff into these babies. Delicious! Negatives? My sandwich had avocado slices on it, which were as crisp as a cucumber. The bread was a little dry, but with 8 different choices for bread, I'm sure I'll find a better option next time. My partner liked the rye bread her sandwich came on.
My salad was also delicious. They have a huge selection of salad with unique topping combinations. I got one with goat cheese, cranberries, almonds, and pecans. They weren't stingy with any of those ingredients.
I can't tell you anything about the cafe itself other than its at 168 Cambridge St. in Boston. They deliver for free, as long as you order at least $7 worth of food. Click here to go to their web site. You can see their menu on the side. Looking on a map, it appears to be just 2 blocks from the Bowdoin stop on the Blue Line.
