1. Open a Upromise account and have family members contribute.
2. Open a Roth IRA for yourself, as the contributions (but not the earnings) can be withdrawn for dependent college expenses tax free.
3. Breastfeed and put the minimum cost of formula of $100 a month into a Coverdell IRA instead.
4. Use cloth diapers and again, save at least $50 a month towards said fund. www.diaperswappers.com is a great source to start.
5. Join the Baby Clubs at the grocery store for extra coupons.
6. Sign up at www.gerber.com, www.beechnut.com, www.pampers.com for coupons.
7. Alternatively- make your own baby food and save even more! Just use a food mill or a food processor.
8. Buy as many items, especially toys, used, as you can. You child will not know, trust me!
9. Consign items when you are done with them, and use the earnings towards the college fund.
