Introducing Skin Conditions group at gather
http://skinconditions.gather.com
Skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis and rosacea affect men, women and children. Let's not suffer alone and share our tips, hints and coping techniques with one another.
Do you prefer ointments or creams, is the itching worse at night, how have you changed the home environment to accommodate this condition?
Do you see a Dermatologist regularly, do you prefer baths or showers, some people are soothed by hot or cold water, while others are bothered by one or the otherm which one is you?
Are tags in clothing an issue, do you cover a rash with makeup, do you avoid being out in public when a rash is evident?
Do you have a hard time opening items due to cuts on fingers, get questions from people on what those scars or marks are on your skin?
Do you use supplements, take something to sleep and not scratch? Do you have a flushed face or itchy feet?
Feel free to share your experiences here where we can learn from one another on what may work for others. I believe the climate makes a difference as I am worse on my face during hot months and my hands at other times of the year.
I need an A/C on year-round to sleep, take meds at night to knock me out, sleep with cotton gloves to stop itching and sometimes must resort to taking Prednisone to control my eczema even though it makes me gain weight and become moody with ups and downs.
Join the group and get comfortable within your skin knowing you are not alone. Parents can gain insight from those of us who have been there and learn what might work for a child.
I know that epson salt in the bath soothes my skin. I prefer Aveeno creams and like to keep them in the refrigerator for that cool feeling on contact.
I am 46 and have dealt with eczema most of my life, since a small child. I also have allergies and asthma, but the eczema is the most frustrating and embarassing of them all.
Currently I am wearing bandaids on most fingers of my hands, cannot function with cuts, sores and peeling skin on my fingers. The simple task of opening a pull tab of soup today was unbearable, the same thing with the type of canned cat food you need to pull the tab off. I would rather try to grip the can opener and try that.
I wonder how those with arthritis survive everyday tasks. I have a conference to go to tomorrow and will not be able to shake any hands. I am still going to do my nails even though they will be covered with bandaids. I can only wear the 3M Active strips as the others irritate my skin more.
Share your experiences either in a comment or in your own article. I know I am not the only person dealing with ths. I belong to some online mailing lists and get some newsletters in the mail and will gather my resources and post an article on them in the near future.
Feel free to share what creams and ointments you prefer. I am allergic to lanolin and have to read the ingredients on everything. I cut tags out of all clothing for me and my children. Welcome to the group

My kids are allergic to them too and they only use my homemade Goat's Milk Soap with Lavender and Oatmeal.
I had the smae problem on my hands for a while and doing dishes by hand just killed me. I healed it up with an herbal salve that had Calendula, comfrey root, tea tree oil, and lavender in it.
I use calendula cream and the Trader Joe's soap, but I read in one of my eczema groups not to use soup in laundry and I stopped for my towels and sheets for awhile.
I go to the gym a few times per week and stay near the fans and dont do treadmill due to asthma and weak bladder and I do not wipe my face with towel.
Nos typing with four bandaids on and used aloe leaf last nite, neighbor cut it up and it is in a baggie in my refrigerator.
Thanks for comments. A good product is from DermaE.net and it is a cream for psoriasis and eczema.
I use eucerin redness cream and also purpose on face, baby powder under arms and not regular bra with straps. I use flexees and barely there so not to get a rash on my back in that spot. Sports bras from Old navy work best for me too.
I tried cetaphil and did not like the feel of it. Matthew's teacher gave me some since she suffers with eczema too.
The lady at Walgreens register does also so we commisserate together and compare rashes.
I looked at your own group called General Hospital and see you posted a one sentence question there as well. Does not seem to be working as no one is forming a conversation with you, than again you did not even give your opinion in your "article".
My private group description states it is for people who have a website and want to discuss various affiliate sites and compensation, etc to help gear up our sites for the holiday boom. That is not a place for someone who does not know what an affiliate is or have a website to ask questions.
They do not market gather as an advice seeking site. There are plenty out there, plus my as seen on tv group clearly states (product reviews) not to post a question about a product you saw and could easily research yourself.
I suggest you take a break from the computer and focus on one thing at a time. Like I saw you asking questions about judys book but not even posting at that group site here. It seems like you are going in several directions and if you stick to one thing than you could probably learn all you need to know for yourself.
My specific groups are not for questions, but discussions. Feel free to create more groups to post your never ending list of questions.
Also, apparently you haven't read any of my "real" articles or poetry or anything like that. Sometimes I like to do fun things and sometimes I like to be serious. I'm not like you who has to take every little thing so serious! Perhaps YOU are the one who needs a break from the computer.. do you even do ANYTHING ELSE???? Do you even have a job?
Yeah, I asked something about Judy's Book and I am a member there and having a great time actually! I was a member before I even asked my question. And again, you only read and see what you want into things. I was asking people on Gather if they belong to Judy's Book and how we can connect (meaning gather people and jb people joining as friends).
Do you even care about people or have a heart? Because from what I have noticed by the way you "speak" to people on here that you are nasty and critical and are never nice to people. Are you just THAT self-involved? I really don't know what your problem is and at this point I really don't care. I have tried to befriend you but you are just a ... hmmm... ya know what? You are so not worth this or my time. As I said in my mail to you, I wish you luck. Have a great life! (and stay out of mine)! C U Next Time, Have a nice day!
But I'm still not convinced I have either of these conditions. I have scheduled an appointment to see a new dermatologist.
In what I've read (both in familymedical books and online) symptoms always describe itching and having the condition is spread acorss the body. I only have the issue on my left ring finger but it is starting to appear on my right.
I wish I knew what questions to ask the new dermatologist to get to the root of my issue. Can anyone share with me how they knew they had eczema?
For me, this started when I was 30. My big joke was that I was allergic to being married. That joke lost its humor a couple of years ago.
Best of luck to controlling all those flair ups!
