I make these for potlucks and family gatherings. It is one of my families favorites.
1 bag of hashbrowns
8oz cheese whiz ( I have used 8oz of Velveeta)
8oz sour cream ( I have used French onion dip)
1 can of cream of celery soup ( I have used cream of chicken but prefer the celery)
1/2 can of water
1 onion finely chopped
1/2 stick butter
Topping
2 cups corn flakes
1/3 cup butter
Mix together the top 7 ingredients cover and bake at 350 degrees for approx. one hour.
You do not have to add topping, but I do prefer it.
For the topping mix 1/3 cup melted butter with 2 cups cornflakes and sprinkle over the uncovered potatoes. Continue baking uncovered for another 15- 20 minutes till cornflakes are golden.
