At what cost?..disturbing thought

Very true, gautami. We really need to find ways to deal with the fear. In the United States it seems we're not doing such a good job either. From what I can see from people's reactions, we are becoming so frightened our normal xenophobic tendencies have kicked into overdrive. It's sad.

There needs to be a line drawn between making safety a priority but also living your life. It seems that right after a threat is made, everything moves into high gear but then dies down again after a little while. That's sad you can't even carry water around. It does make it feel like the terrorists have won when you feel like you have lost some of your freedom.

I can only imagine what it is like for you. If I may let me point out something to you that while it won't make you less fearful it may give what you are experiencing meaningful. You can write and wrte well. Chronocile your feelings and your experiences. Be a witness. It is so necessary that people know what it is like. we get news from government and from news media but hear nothing but soundbites from people.

I believe that each of us is where are ment to be and are given the talents to full a purpose.

Forgive the preaching. I get a bit carried away, most of the time.

God is with you my young friend. Never doubt that.

I'm with you in your despair. The insiduous pressure evilly exerted by terrorists show that they are the dregs of society. That's why they can strap bombs to their own daughters.

John has a point there, write to the media, all the news statons. Ask them to post this story, when they do, more people of Delhi will see it and then act to be let free to go where they want. If people are being stopped and searched there is no reason to be stopped from going somewhere.

Gautami, thank you for telling your story here. It reminds me of this country right after 9/11 (except for the liquids). Terrorists are nothing but murdering scum and we MUST prevail over them! They're a blood-soaked, criminal empire with fanatical delusions of grandeur! This is their weakness. Your strength is that you see all the facets - they don't. They think fear will conquer you but you've already seen through that scam. I know it's hard to live normally while under a terrorist threat - but we must. That doesn't mean you don't take precautions. Now, we need to be hyper-vigilant and watchful - but not paranoid.

Probably the bigger worry is that one's own government might grow to like the control it exerts in the name of keeping us safe. Vigilence must be taken to see that, too, doesn't happen.

Go out and walk where you want to. If you're stopped and searched, what will they find? If you have nothing of interest, I presume you'd be allowed to continue on your way. I hope so.

Like here, you may have to endure some inconveniences. I'm prepared for those - but I will not surrender my life or my freedom to those sons-o-bitches! Neither should you!

I agree with John D. and with Duse, and I'm very grateful to you for posting this. Keep writing and it may help you to deal with it. It means a lot to me to be able to read an honest message from someone who is living this daily. I keep looking for blogs from Beirut and Baghdad and Nasariya to help me to better understand these terrible situations. I hope you will post more. Thanks!

Melancholy and whining about terrorism is truly worthless. Together we must confront it and stigmatize the voices who want to "understand" fanatics who want to attack civilian society. All we need to understand is that it is an evil and unacceptable form of mental instability, and we must fight it. Who frankly cares what they want.
