Well actually it is a fact that many plots were foiled during the Clinton Administration and it was Clinton's "Condaleeza" who had been kept on board to support Condi who tried to alert members of the Bush Administration, including Bush directly, of the fact that Bin Laden was planning to fly planes into the World Tade Center. At one point he was told something to the effect of "I don't want to hear any more about terrorists!" Unfortunately Bush's agenda of serving his friends' business interests took priority. The line the Bush Administration told from Condi: "We had no way of knowing..." is bull. One of the reasons I call her "Kinda-lies-a-(lot)". The gentleman I mentioned wrote a book. wrote a book.

Marty, I understand and I am thankful for 9/11, though I wish it had not needed to happen.

I am thankful to 9/11 because some of us woke up, some of realize, that the world is at WAR, this is WWIII. I began back when our Sovereign land was invaded and our people held prisoner... it began in the Carter Administration. Most countries consider invasion of there embassy by a nation to be an act of war, Carter wiped out he blinked first and Bin ladden and the Iran situation are the result. But because of 9/11 I am awake, my head is not in the sand.
I tell my kids every day I love them, and I pray all the time for more safe days to say it. I am kinder to my wife and more patient with my fellow Americans (except maybe people opinions like Clarks) Anyhow, I am learning how to subsist, to grow food both meat and garden... I am learning how to shoot with effect I am preparing to do what ever is needed to defend my country and my state and my neighborhood and my home and my children from the possible ramifications of WWIII.

I heard today the idea that Iran may e behind the bombers, and if that is true the person went on, then when the planes went into thew Atlantic they would probably attack Israel including sending troops right through Iraq... Because frankly I suspect they already have a nuke. They would also turn off there oil shipments and bomb the oil fields possibly even the Saudi's fields. Venezuela would probably turn off there exports to us as well, because as you must realize they just Love us... NOT.

If this happened when we were distracted with the bombings then I suspect the Chinese would take advantage of our distraction and decide it is time for Taiwan to come back into the fold. I also would not bet on south Korea being free for long because the North would most certainly invade and even launch a missile at there enemy the Japanese....

My grandfather (several great) his brother survived because of him and thus I am here today. I also remember my Grandfather Storr's who was preaching abolition, and was arrested by the "Democrats" of Dover NH because he was causing trouble (if you know history the Democrats were NOT anti slavery) I also remember my cousin in Iraq and the other who just came home.

I remember my brother Tom's friend and his fiance who decided to go to NY ahead of the wedding party to get things ready... and ended up going to our Father in Heaven to get things ready for us there instead...

And I remember an anarchist who love his non-uniform of leather chains earrings and tattoos's, and who came through the Drive trough of the store on 9/12/2001 I managed with a flag in his pocket and tears for his fellow Americans on his face...

I remember the fear in my heart when we didn't know what the downed planes meant, and I remember the tears of joy that ran down my face when I saw a police officer at the doors of my childrens' school... and how it felt to hold my children soon there after knowing for that moment that they were safe.

And I remember my sisters History teacher from the University of New Hampshire who was on Flight 11 out of Boston on 9/11... and even you Clark and others of you who disagree with me I remember you and I will fight to the death to provide you with the right to argue.

I remember America, and as long as I have breath America will live and I will strive to make sure my children keep her alive long after I am gone.

Yes American's died, but it was not a civilian target inside the US like the WTC, and yes that does bother me, don't take this out of context. I'm just saying that a successful terrorist plot inside the US is different than someone parking a boatful of explosives next to a naval vessel off the coast of unfriendly territory.

Hummmm The World Trade Center bombing on February 26, 1993, a car bomb in the garage of the WTC detonated by Islamist terrorists. It killed six, injured over 1,000. Do you not remember that? I would call that in the United States, wouldn't you? And btw wasn't the Billary administration in office at that time? Or does it only count when thousands die.

That's highly unlikely. The Clinton/Gore white house was literally obsessed with al Qaeda. Bush couldn't be bothered with them. Bush's first cabinet level meeting on counterterrorism didn't take place until 9 months after he'd stolen office. Clinton was having them DAILY.

And, yes, Clinton was in charge when several major terror attack attempts were thwarted. The attempt on LAX, the milleum attack attempt, and an attack in Brooklyn...the Holland tunnel, I believe, were all prevented while Bubba was in charge.

True, the '93 WTC attack happened under his watch, but this was less than 2 months after he'd taken office, after 1 years of republican rule there, so I'm not at all surprised that he would be in some disarray at that stage. Which leads one to believe, why didn't Bush I prevent that attack? Surely, if it happened merely 2 months after Clinton took office, Bush I MUST have known about it, right?

All this political point-making is ridiculous. Bruce, of COURSE everyone wants to be safe. But no one has yet to offer any evidence WHATSOEVER that our safety was jeopardized by Iraq. I would have much preferred to get the job really done in Afghanistan. I don't think that there is any argument that Bush and the neo-cons were pushing a specific agenda at that point. But whatever the case, it's pretty clear that no matter how we got there and who got us there, what we have now is one big, brilliant mess. We are screwed in a major way.

There is just no evidence that "this" -- whatever this is -- would happen if Al Gore were president. Yes, certainly, 9/11 might have happened, but I doubt very, very much that we'd be in Iraq right now. Afghanistan, possibly, and I think a lot more Americans would be behind that than the mess we have now.

I for one am not thankful of 9/11 nor that that fact 3000 people had to die. If our intelligence had better leadership 9/11 would not of happend......Im not saying our intelligence is not good or anything but the fact is that we knew the planes had been hijacked and we could have shot the planes down way bofore it would of hit a building but because of poor leadership no one ordered anything.

Just a quick comment on an area I knew well.

Our foreign intelligence community had no eyes prior to 9/11, they having all been removed in the '70's. They also had no authority to share any info they did have with those responsible for security in the U.S. And finally, those in the U.S. like the FBI had no right to investigate anyone in the U.S. who had not already committed a crime.

Given those conditions, how could we have ever averted 9/11? We were not allowed to put together the dots or even to share the dots.

Since 9/11 and the Patriot Act, an act which the Dems tried to prevent from being renewed just 7 months ago, this situation has been somewhat corrected but not totally. We still have many more years before we will have a professional force of spies with sources around the world, maybe as many as 15 years. In addition, there remain things we can do to investigate organized crime but cannot do to investigate terrorists, for instance.
