One of the writers in my life that I adore reading is my son (there are 2 other children and my husband who are writers in our family; my other daughter's fancy is caught by singing and art). John R just joined gather a couple weeks ago.
He hasn't posted much cause he has a busy schedule with surfing, working (you'll read about it), his girlfriend Rachael - who took his icon pic, his group of friends and asking me constantly, 'Mom, what's for lunch (dinner, etc; as if I'm here to be his personal cook each hour of the day, even though he is 20).
But I adore him and think he is an excellent writer, especailly when he writes birthday and mother's day poems to me. I'd like you all to head over to his stuff and give him a read. I don't think he's learned to be in groups yet, so his stuff is sitting there very lonely, waiting for someone to notice them.
Here is one of the poems he wrote me a few years ago:
Here we go again with the Mother's day poetry
If I remember correctly, this makes three.
I like to be able to give to you this way
And I love that you value the things I say
Ah, what a year this year we've had
It was crazy—but not all bad.
I have reflected on recent things
And I want to tell you some decent things
I know I need guidance and pressure and lists
Even though I can't help but resist.
You efforts to help me have been relentless
And my resistance, mostly just senseless
More and more I find people who really like you
And I heard an idea quite new:
I have a cool mom, they say
Agreeing, I muse, "No way…"
If you'd like to read him, just search for 'things i hate', john r

my middle son, who is 8, started writing letters to me with an envelope..and inside i get notes, sometimes there is a nice wordand a smiley , sometimes a frown..since he can not spell that well in English it makes me laugh..there is nothing that would make me prouder than a child that writes poems! i will read some more! thanks!
