My husband and I have enjoyed wine for quite some time but it's not that easy to find others that not only share our interest in wine but in other activities. We have a few friends that we enjoy a great deal and we all finally decided to have a wine party. At our house, no less.
We ended up opening a total of nine wines. Our friends brought over some wines from their trip to Niagara and we have wines from our trip to Napa. It was a fun experience. Of the wines we opened, my favorites were the Nickel and Nickel Regusci Cabernet and the Merry Edwards Russian River Valley Pinot Noir. Both were delicious and great fun. But these were wines I had tried before. Of the new wines brought were a Chardonnay from South Brook Winery in Niagara and a Cab Franc from Inniskillin. Both were very nice and a great treat to the palate. I am not a big Chardonnay fan, but I have to admit that the South Brook Chard was very nice with hints of pear and a nice buttery finish. I don't see anything wrong with a buttery Chard. Maybe I'm weird in that respect.
We had a lovely assortment of cheese and fruit to go with our wines. And when our tasting was over we ended the evening with a steak dinner. Perhaps next time, we might actually make it to dessert without being full...but knowing us, I doubt it.
