than by throwing icy water in my face

and they will be the root of my disgrace

I'm lying to myself your love could be true
the way I wish that you would want to do
just be the man you are
warts and all
so I can stop my wishing on a star

there is no common frame of reference
that ties our destinies with tragic fate
so tell me of insurmountable difference
before I sell my heart out much too late

I'm lying to myself my heart is for you
what's a star-crossed paradox to do
I can't believe my mind
could ever trick me
do me a favor and don't be so kind

so maybe I should close the door of my heart
by overstating that my love is true
please shatter the illusion before we part
so I can grieve my crazy point of view

Another superb show tune, and I mean Broadway show tune, of the likes of Porter, Berlin, Gershwin, even Sondheim here a little in the slight bitterness and the acid pill. A lot of sophistication in the balance and arrangement of the speaker/singer's vacillations on love and "lying to myself." Have you ever thought about writing a Broadway type musical, Cynth. I am a playwright, director, and producer when in the States, and I have seen work far inferior too this getting produced in regional theatres and summer shows all over the country, let alone New York. Have you ever worked with theatre artists? You have a knack--maybe you should check out libretto composition classes nearby where you live.
