Mirtie and Dee and Tony made three,
And they were happy as they could be.
Or so they thought till the stork had brought....
Miss Dorothy Lee.
The brothers Wright, took their first flight
On Nag's Head dunes by dawn's first light.
But more important to me, you see,
Was the birth in year nineteen-0-three of....
Dorothy Lee.
This little babe, so frail was made,
She had to be on a pillow laid.
The rickets were the first, you see,
Of many ailments that were to be for....
Dorothy Lee
When she could crawl on down the hall,
The mammy heard her shriek and bawl.
Her palm had stuck, oh, golly gee,
To the red hot stove and would not free our....
Dorothy Lee
As time went by there were times to cry,
From childhood ills to a plain old sty.
More serious things were yet to be
Before she later gave birth to me....this
Dorothy Lee
Scarlet fever and smallpox too,
Were some of the things to name a few.
A goiter, typhoid and, let me see,
She almost died in birthing me...my
Dorothy Lee
Her house burned down right to the ground.
Not much was saved or even found.
Then in the year 1933
Amid the depression, I was conceived in....
Dorothy Lee.
Her time had come, the deed near done.
A babe she'd have by the setting sun.
But, lo, the doctor could not foresee
Her trouble meant this was not to be for....
Dorothy Lee
The rickets toll did play a role
In keeping her from the appointed goal.
She labored long. Next day at three,
The doctor oped for a section "C" on....
Dorothy Lee
So you can see what she means to me.
Without her I simply would not be.
She overcame a lot to live,
And so this day, my love I give to....
Dorothy Lee.
Her life's been long. Let's ring a gong,
And join together to sing a song
To Mama, dear, we give a cheer for...
Dorothy Lee
HAPPY BIRTHDAY 1994
